Time To Change Your Twitter Profile 300x240 Have You Changed Your Twitter Profile LatelyThe more I use Twitter, the more value it brings me and my business.  In this world of social media twitter is a very useful tool.
-

Maybe I am a slow learner, but I just discovered recently that your Twitter profile is a key component (along with tweets, @mentions and hashtags) to attracting and building your following.
-

But … how does your profile stand the test of time?  Have you changed your Twitter profile lately?  Heck I didn’t even think that was necessary as I thought I was attracting a good number of followers each and every day.
-

Except now I have learned that there is a thing called Twitter Bio Optimization.
-

Ok … now don’t think this is going to take a lot of work, because I promise it won’t.  But it sure will help you turn your Twitter profile into an attention grabbing, social magnet.
-

So what should you do?  Here are 3 things that I changed on my Twitter profile and am seeing huge results ever since I made these changes.-

#1 – Profile Picture
-

Believe it or not, having a real photograph of yourself is key to people that come to your Twitter account.  This gives visitors a real face and helps establish a rapport with followers when they are checking out your Twitter profile.  If you are in business, your profile image will only help to give your business legitimacy.

#2 – Business Info
-
_

Use your real name!  I know you have heard me say this before.  Don’t hide behind a user name or alias.  Business people and professionals want to meet others like them and hiding behind an alias just looks suspicious.  Next, put the location of the business. This helps give followers something concrete and be able to relate to you.
HINT:
Did you know you can add another URL in your Twitter profile?  Take a look at mine.

#3 – “Bio” Blues
-
Here’s the tricky part
. You have to create an interesting and engaging bio using no more than 160 characters.  This is where your keywords relating to your business should be used. Be creative in describing the primary purpose of your business.  And also what benefit you will bring to your followers.
-

These are just a few ways to use maximize your twitter profile. There is no way to get more characters so it is important to get as much information in the space allotted – don’t waste any of it!  It is after all, your most valuable Twitter real estate!
-

So are you going to run over to your Twitter profile and make any changes?  If you do, please send me a ‘tweet’ and I will be happy to re-tweet!  Share your comments below.

To your continued online business success!

What I did was hire a guy to create some graphics for my Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube profiles that way there was some continuity between the different channels. This helped me with my branding process. Of course now that I have a new blog design and I need a new picture of myself I am going to have to update them all, but its ok, its fun to change stuff.

  4. Your tips are so useful Lynn, as always very helpful.

What is the purpose of having various profiles? This is something i have always wondered…

I am now appreciating how twitter works more and more as time goes by.

What I most like about this platform is how fast you can use it, how flexible it is and most of all it respects one’s privacy;))

Thank you Patricia. And I agree, Twitter is a platform where you can connect, engage, research and source leads and prospects very quickly. It depends on the time invested towards Twitter which for some business owners, they don’t see how Twitter can provide that.

As for other profiles, they are generally set up to focus on another niche or keyword. This is especially for products or programs you may be promoting, i.e., affiliate products.

Glad you stopped by and shared your comments and look forward to you visiting again soon. Have a wonderful day!

  5. Lynn,

I have been thinking about changing my Twitter profile picture lately. My picture is about a year old and I feel it should be updated to how I look now. I changed my hair color and style, and since I meet many people offline that I meet on Twitter, I feel it is important that this picture is updated. I also wanted to more personality into my picture. I love it when I see people with expressive photos on Twitter. It makes me want to know more about them. :)

Thanks for the great article. Now, I really have to change that photo! :)

  9. Hi Lynn,

Wow, I see you have not problem getting followers. How in the world do you get over five thousand followers? My twitter accounts are desperately low in followers and I don’t even know what to do about it. Any advice will be more than welcome.

I know I never spend much time on Twitter, but still I do tweet a lot these days, but I’m stuck still :)

Thank you for those tips, I will definitely retouch my bio.

    • Lynn Brown says:

You are welcome Sylviane and glad the tips are helpful. Getting followers on Twitter takes some time, but since you are already getting onto Twitter, when you are tweeting, if those are people you want to follow be sure to follow them. Then go to their profile, and I will tweet an @mention relating to their profile and say ‘look fwd to connecting with you to share tweets and info”….. 9 times out of 10 then follow me right back.

The key is to be yourself and always ask for the connection. But whenever you relate something back to them, it is amazing how people will want to connect with you. Give it a try….. try to connect with 10 people right now …. and then see how many new followers you have the next morning.

Let me know Sylviane how you do and of course, lets make sure you and are are connected on twitter as well! Twitter: @learnit2earnit

Have fun and thank you for stopping by today. Appreciate your comments.

  10. Lynn: I change my profile from time to time, but I try not to worry about twitter too much. It can be a headache if I focus on it too much, but one thing I do know is that I will not follow a person with a spam filled bio. Nope. No way. Not now, not ever.
I just keep mines simple because people tend to like things that are simple.

On another note, your site is really nice! Keep up the good work.

    Best wishes,

Thanks William for your positive support! And I agree, there are spammy Twitter profiles that really will not help promote you or your business. If you follow those types of accounts, you can find yourself getting flooded with more unwanted followers.

So you make a great point William. Appreciate you stopping by today and adding your good advice — hope you will visit again soon. Have an awesome day!

  11. Great ideas, Lynn. Since I use three profiles, I use two different pictures (and the third is the corporate logo). But, even better is the idea to change the profile up a bit, to keep it fresh.
