How to attract more visitors to your Facebook Fan Page?

-

According to an article published in PCWorld (January 2012), Facebook now has over 1 BILLION users! That’s a pretty incredible statistic, isn’t it? With that number of Facebook users, one can safely assume there are a lot of people that can be potential customers.

_

Two additional staggering statistics are 67% of B2C companies and 41% of B2B companies have acquired customers through Facebook.

_

The question you should be asking is, “How can my Facebook fan page successfully compete with all of the other businesses?”

_

Here are my top 4 tips to attract more visitors and give you that competitive edge:

 _

Plan a Marketing Campaign

The key to this tip is to start with a specific plan. Focus on area of your business, products or services that you would like to highlight and create a detailed marketing plan.  If you choose to undertake this step without a planned process you will lose focus, generating lackluster results in your attempt to attract more visitors to your Facebook fan page or business site.

_

Determine Your Market

The biggest mistake business owners and marketers make on Facebook is lacking knowledge of or understanding their target market. They send messages that are not niche specific, confusing their audience. Target a specific market niche. You might think sending information to the general population will get you more ‘fans’ but, in reality, it can actually defeat your marketing efforts. So, take the time to ‘niche it down!’

_

Marketing Budget

If you are a serious business owner or marketer, a strategy worth considering is paid advertising. Facebook ads are a great way to build your fan base through enticing more people to ‘like’ your page (click to tweet). Increasing your fans means more potential customers viewing information you share about your company, products or services. A good rule of thumb is to begin with a low daily budget and test several ads. Facebook ads allow you to target specific groups of people, skills, locations and even income classes. The key is to dedicate funds for marketing on Facebook in your business plan.

_

Analyze Your Stats

Facebook provides an area called “Insights” that gives you all kinds of information about your current stats. Take some time and analyze these stats. Compare results from one week to another and truly learn what people pay attention to. Facebook makes it easy and breaks it down…from the number of likes, demographics, reach to ‘who is talking about your page.’ This essential information directly relates to your marketing strategies, your business site and what, exactly, your audience wants. Don’t waste time reinventing the wheel! If you immediately respond to these states and make adjustments as necessary, you will create a successful Facebook fan page.

  8. Raena Lynn says:

    HI Lynn,

It took me awhile to get around to really understand the power of the Facebook Fan Page (attempts have been made to call it business page, but we all still call it a fan page). I’m experimenting with Facebook ads and I’ve had some good results. At the present time I am practicing and split testing. I am certainly not an expert, but I’ve learned a lot by doing practicing and tracking results.

Engagement is vital after the fans start coming and I’ve been working on increasing my Facebook Edge Rank which has a high positive impact on fan pages if it is done correctly. One of my favorite changes in the Timeline format is the insights section.

As a summary, you listed these 4 ways o Attract More Visitors to Your Facebook Fan Page:

    1) Plan a Marketing Campaign
    2) Determine Your Market
    3) Marketing Budget
    4) Analyze Your Stats

All 4 are essential and excellent tips! It is worth utilizing all 4 since the audience has hit 1 Billion! Thanks Lynn!

I’d really be interested in hearing additional details about your results in the future. It would be great to share your stats w/everyone to show the positive impact as well as any tips/advice you learned along the way! Thanks for dropping in today and sharing your thoughts & experiences. Have a super Friday and a wonderful weekend!

  9. Niching it down is beyond critical. Drill down to a specific market of individuals. The more specialized the better. By drilling down you establish clarity around your Page, and people know immediately whether to join and stay glued to the updates or whether to Not Like. Either way, it provides both parties with better, more appropriate matches.

Logging in under your Page ID can also drive a nice chunk of traffic to you. Interact: comment, engage, ask questions provide answers. By doing this you can establish trust and boost your Likes too.

    Thanks Lynn!

Exactly, Ryan! Sounds like you’ve got it down to a fine science. I completely agree with your comment regarding interacting on your FB page. Sometimes, that gets lost by the wayside, which is not a good thing, because we get so busy interacting on our blog/twitter/LinkedIn/etc. We must remember to pay equal attention to our facebook page in order to build & maintain those connections. Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts. Have a great week!

  10. What I found out through experience, however, is that not many people want to “fan” or “friend” a lawyer/law firm…Oh my days playing around with Facebook.

I think Facebook is a great way to advertise your business as long as it is something that your audience is interested in. I noticed that photographers, wedding websites, and various clothing stores do very well on Facebook. That is a great social platform for them.

  11. Great insight as usual Lynn. I only recently started experimenting with advertising for my books, and as part of that I was curious to see what would happen if I paid to promote a FB fan page post. I have to admit I was stunned because traffic sky rocketed 10 fold, along with that an increase in Likes and even several new blog subscribers. Of course the traffic eventually levels off because the duration is just 3 days, but that was a couple of weeks ago and I’m pleasantly surprised that a lot of people have continued to return and comment. Now, that said, I’m not going to go crazy and start promoting every post – but when I really want to get the word out about something I won’t hesitate to give it another try. FB ads, not so much maybe.

Wow, Marquita! Sounds like you’ve had a very positive response with FB promotion! I do agree with your strategy of only spending the $$ when you truly have important information to promote — very smart practice. I greatly appreciate you stopping by & sharing your experience with me & everyone else. What better way to decide if a strategy is worth it than by hearing from others who have been there & done that! Wishing you a fun & relaxing weekend.

  12. Ferdinand says:

How much is “acceptable” minimum budget if you plan to advertise on facebook? Also how do you find your target market?

    • Lynn Brown says:

Ferdinand: When marketing on FB it starts with your budget. My miniumum budget is $7.00 – $10.00 per day and I will only run the campaign for 4 days. This is a good way to test the ad to see what results you are pulling in. Only after that, would you want to increase your budget. If you don’t see the results from the initial campaign, change just one thing, like the title or the image, put it back out for another 4 days. Testing is a huge part of having successful marketing ad campaigns on any social site.

As for finding your target market, that will require time to search the social sites, forums, groups by using your keywords. Not only will you find where your target market hangs out, you will also gain valuable information on what they are talking about, what problems they want solved or things that they find entertaining and so on.

I hope this information helps. Thanks for stopping by & have a super weekend!

  13. Lynn,

      • Hello again Lynn,

By teh way… I am still working on making the page (what ever that is) more interesting by posting useful info and no junk, and of courc=se sharing great stuff from friends and members of our group.

Thanks once again Lynn.. always a pleasure to read your great info.

        thanks again.

        • Lynn Brown says:

Hi Nick! Glad to see you again! I looked at your fb page & would like to offer just a couple of tips. (1) It’s nice to have a professional “head shot” as your picture…looking straight on to the camera w/a welcoming smile. (2) It’s also nice to incorporate a banner behind your picture, branding you/your company, with text included that highlights services/products you offer. (3) The “About” section, just under your picture, should be a brief description of your company that links to a more in-depth “About” page. You can take a look at my page if any of the above tips are unclear: learnit2earnit.

I keep that page “strictly business” — post links to my various blogs & enable followers/fans to comment on those posts. I keep a separate facebook page for personal use, where I connect w/family & friends.

I hope this information helps. Take a look and let me know if you have any further questions. I completely understand the lack of time issue, so no worries! Have a super weekend!

Hello Eszti! Yes, it’s true. If a home-based business owner really wants to grow his/her business, spending a bit of time incorporating these tips & just a bit of marketing money can make a difference. As you mention, finding your target market or niche, is a vitally important step & will save the business owner both time & money if this is determined from the start. I’m very glad you dropped by today, shared your thoughts & found my information beneficial! I hope you have a great week!

  15. Lisa says:

Wow, I did not realize Facebook hit 1 billion users. Lynn. I thought they were headed to 800 million. Yes if you want a lot of fans you must advertise. Very difficult to get many fans without it. How would they all know you are around – just like a new brick and mortar store, they must ADVERTISE.
Lisa recently posted..Using one tweet, like & pin to spread ovarian cancer awarenessMy Profile

    • Lynn Brown says:

Lisa: Yes, I was shocked by the Facebook statistic as well! It only goes to show that Facebook, at times, does not get its just deserts. Many business owners don’t appreciate the intrinsic value of achieving & maintaining a bustling fan page, which can be achieved through investing in a bit of Facebook advertising. While it is true that one can, through expansive effort/time/dedication, similar results can be achieved…why not, as the saying goes, “Work smarter, not harder!” Thanks so much for stopping by today and sharing your thoughts on this topic. Hope you have a super week!
