If you can make it through your day without hearing the term Facebook, you are most likely living a very secluded life. Even if that is the case, your smartphone won’t tolerate that level of isolation for long.
-
Assuming however, that you are leading a normal life, just how bored with Facebook are you? As difficult as it is to admit, there aren’t many Facebook users who, at one time or another, haven’t sat anxiously in front of their computer waiting for someone to “like” their latest post.
-
As with all things in life, once the novelty has worn off, we find ourselves drifting back into a productive routine. Yes, we are bored with Facebook, but the social giant certainly has a place in our lives.
-
Facebook changes will certainly bring with them, a renewed interest in the service. Users will come, and users will go. That is how it works.
-
Why just today while surfing the web, I stumbled onto this article and which only confirms my thoughts of the future of Facebook, http://www.webpronews.com/are-you-bored-with-facebook-2012-06#more.

Hey Lynn, nice post. Answering to your question at the end of your post. I am a big facebook addict and you are correct life seems secluded without accessing Facebook.

Hello Shiwangi! It’s true…Facebook does seem to be like an old friend. It is comfortable & a mainstay in our lives. But, I think it is all in how we look at Facebook & use it…if we “spice” things up and post eye-catching bits of information on our page, then it creates a new excitement! Whenever things start to feel mundane, that is a sign that we need to shake things up & get the excitement flowing again! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Have a great week!
hey lynn , very nice post.
I think Facebook is becoming more of a business website than for social. i see ads everywhere now , on photos and now they have started reach your audience with sponsored posts. it just sucks to see that i have 4000 fans and facebook is showing those posts to only 500 of them and encouraging me to pay them to get it more visible

saad naeem recently posted..PopUp Domination 3.0 Review – WordPress Plugin
I couldn’t agree with you more on that Saad. It has become a platform for the advertisers that can pay the money to be seen. I did a little experiment with a Facebook ad promoting my fan page. I learned from a recent webinar that Facebook will actually promote your ads when it is your fan page or a link back to a post on Facebook.
I was surprised to see for $28 I actually received a lot of attention, reach and likes. So understanding how Facebook operates is key for small business owners that want to see results when setting up their budge for advertising on these social sites.
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this Saad. Thanks for coming by today. Look forward to you visiting again soon.

Nice looking site you have Lynn, as to the future of Facebook, who knows, but for now it’s still a giant in the social media industry. However there are other social sites arising that are gaining steam. Just about everyone has heard of Pinterest by now.
My wife utilizes Facebook for staying in touch with family and friends and it still seem to work great for that.
My FB account is more business, and I find that it can closely resemble nothing more than a link promoting fest at times. I agree with Lisa that something funny or beautiful scenery, posts of that sort seem to get shared more.
All in all though, once of the benefits of FB from a business social media point of view is, Google still likes it, which translates in to link juice being passed to your blogs, and helping with ranking.
Thank you Russell for the positive comment about my site, always appreciate the feedback. And yes, Facebook is still a force in the internet world, especially for family and friends. I think the business side will have to make some changes if they want to compete with other sites like LinkedIn and even Google+.
I will agree, if Google likes FB then it is the place to at least have a presence on to give you that important visibility and search ability! Thank you so much for sharing your insight and glad that you stopped by today. Please visit again soon and have a great day!

Hi Lynn,
I had a great resistance using FB both for marketing and personal reasons.
I guess I belong to old school where I like to meet people in person.
On the other hand I recognize the vale of it I would never had known the amount of people I have working from my office and at home.
I think it is a question of using fb in a balanced way.
It is easy to get caught up in it and it will hae to adapt to people that are on the go.
The privacy issues are another aspect of it that can get annoying, I do not like FB to announce where I go for holidays for example if I take a picture a share it;))
Thanks for sharing!

Yes Patricia there are a lot of people not liking or the lack of privacy on Facebook. They have made some changes where you can turn certain privacy features on or off.
I have to say that Facebook has been a great way to meet so many people all over the world, like you! that I would have never had met otherwise. So it is a positive way to increase connections for my business but also to learn so much from the people that I meet.
Thank you for sharing your experience and comments. Always good to see you and wishing you a wonderful day ahead!

Oh gosh Lynn, I have such a hate/love relationship with Facebook. I jump in and give it my all for awhile, get fed up and walk away for awhile; then something fires me up again and I’m back at it. Not the smartest business strategy I know, but Facebook is a trial sometimes. In fact the latest issue is the problem of increasing likes on FB pages. I noticed in one day recently I had half a dozen notices that people had liked my page, but the count on likes only went up by one! I then started tracking the number of likes and found that was not unusual. I headed over to the Help section and was stunned to find a very loooooong ongoing thread about this very subject! People are working their buns off to attract visitors to their pages and even if that visitor clicks ‘like’ it’s hit or miss whether it counts. It’s been reported (and reported) and apparently they’re working on it. One person was told that FB will only count a like on your page if the person does it from their profile – they won’t count it if someone likes you while using FB from their page. But plenty of people have found (including me) that not to be the case. Anyway, I forgot your question at this point – but the bottom line is I’m on FB only because I feel I have to be, not because I’m enjoying it

marquita herald recently posted..Finding the Courage to Believe in Yourself
I hear you on this one Marquita. In fact, this is something I have been fighting with Facebook from day one.
Yes, it is true. If you LIKE a fan page from your fan page, it will not count. So you have to LIKE it from your personal profile, however, sometimes you have to be friends first. Is your head spinning yet?!
I found this out through a Group on LinkedIn where we share our Facebook Fan Pages. So we keep reminding each other that you have to become friends, then LIKE the fan page. It is crazy.
The other thing is you cannot ‘recognize’ new fans if they are not friends with you. So once again – Facebook continues to MINGLE our personal pages with our business pages. I have voted, sent emails, sign petitions and got into discussion groups begging Facebook to change this.
Fan pages are about business and should not be shared on personal pages UNLESS the business owner or the friend wishes to do so. But instead, if you LIKE a post, it will go to my personal page. Instead I ask people to Facebook Share (which I think they are going to change that now to be “SEND”) and a box pops up so you can decide if you want to share the article, post or whatever … to your personal page, group or fan page. Loved when they added that feature at the beginning of this year.
Sorry … you got me going on this one Marquita, but I am glad that you stopped in and sharing your experience, frustration and insight about Facebook. It is a way for us to all learn and grow and hopefully help each other to figure it all out. Have a great day …. keep smiling!

Hey Lynn, I’m having a DUH moment. The point about having to be friends first never occurred to me and while I can see that making some sort of flawed sense to Facebook it seems just crazy to me that they would choose to make everything so complicated. I understand now why Chris Brogan decided to dump FB all together in favor of Google+ … maybe I need to invest the time to try and figure that one out a little better. Thanks Lynn!
marquita herald recently posted..Finding the Courage to Believe in Yourself
You know Marquita, Guy Kawasaki did the same thing. He only uses Google+ and totally believes it is the platform for business. (Well, other than LinkedIn for me!!)
But you are right, if it is going to be difficult, then there will be some fall out with Facebook. So that is why I hope they will turn it around.
Funny thing, yesterday I was thinking the same thing. Should I now focus more about learning to use Google+. I have over 1000 followers over there and I didn’t have to ‘friend’ them first!
Lynn Brown recently posted..Have You Changed Your Twitter Profile Lately
Hi Lynn,
In my case, it’s actually the other way around. If you look at my number of friends which is still pretty low, it has still triple in the past few months, because I never wanted to care about social media until rather recently.
I did the same thing with Twitter. However, for the past few months I’ve decided to get more involved and joined groups to increase my traffic and that totally changed my view of social media. I am n ow pretty busy on facebook.

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with it too. I find it great to keep up with friends and family; On the business pages I struggled for a bit but found if you keep it light and interesting there it works. You cannot promote, even offer discounts – did not work on the retail pages I have. But put something funny up and it got shared and liked all over.
Lisa recently posted..Have You Updated To The Latest WordPress 3.4 Version?
That sounds about right Lisa. I think Facebook is truly a wonderful platform for staying in touch with family and friends as it was intended to be.
The fan pages have improved a bit from when they first came out. But I know what you mean when it comes to getting your post or anything promotional doesn’t have the same ‘reach’ as other content that isn’t as business oriented.
That is why my main platform for me has been and will be LinkedIn. But I will still keep a presence on Facebook as it is a great tool for visibility. I’m keeping my fingers crossed Facebook will turn things around for the business fan pages.
Thanks Lisa for stopping in and sharing your comments. I always enjoy seeing and hearing from you. See you over on Twitter too!

Definitely is food for thought! I use Facebook mainly to keep in touch with family and friends and be up-to-date with what is going on in their lives. It is a lot quicker and easier than trying to stay in touch (out-of-state) by phone or email. Everyone seems to have a busy life these days.
I’ve just recently spent a lot of time in Facebook Pages – trying to get a handle on using it for business and also getting up-to-date tips for using everything from A-Z in internet marketing, social media, and all the WordPress tools and plugins.
So, it is an excellent communication tool as well as a great tutorial educating platform that never runs out!

Thank you for writing this post Lynn. In fact I can totally relate to the article you shared. I would not say I was bored but overwhelmed. I guess it really depends on the person and the situation we use it for. After all, like Roberta said, it is nothing but a tool
Thanks Yusuf! Yes Roberta does make a great point. And as we continue to grow with Facebook, there might be new features that will better suit us for our business.
I am so happy to see you stop by today Yusuf. It has been a while and I am hoping that you are doing really well! Take care my friend, and please visit again soon!

Facebook is a tool, a toy and a confusion for many people. I still have a love hate confused relationship with FB. I enjoy some of the cool posts but, maybe there is something about best friends etc from Hajra’s post http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Flifeforinstance.com%2F2012%2F06%2F16%2Fhow-many-best-friends-do-you-have%2F&h=QAQFV8x8c that influences how we react to facebook

It is amazing how many people feel the same way Roberta. I think the big social site has to start listening to the people that built the site in the first place. Really appreciate you sharing Hajra’s article. It is true, how many best friends can one really have. The rest would all be considered acquaintances, business friends and colleagues when it comes to social sites.
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. I always appreciate your insight that is helpful to others.

I like the “social” aspect of Facebook and the connections made with friends, family, and business associates. Granted, it may be the perfect place to get clients or build a business, yet I know a few successful entrepreneurs who started their businesses here and now make at least 6-figures. Do I hope to be one of them? Well, reality tells me it won’t happen to me that way, but I sure do have a lot of fun chewing the fat and spreading the love with everyone.
I love that PeggyLee, ‘fun chewing the fat and spreading the love with everyone”! It is a platform to socialize on for sure, next to Twitter. I think those making the six figures based from Facebook, have found their audience to be there. And that is really half the battle with any of these social sites – gotta know your target market.
Thank you PeggyLee I appreciate your awesome feedback and you stopping by today. Have a wonderful weekend.

I can take FB or leave it. Probably because I don’t consider our market to be “retail” in focus. But, who knows what will happen when FB grows up

Thanks for adding your comments, always appreciated! Happy Father’s Day weekend to you Roy.
