Is there really a good reason for organizing your social media sites? I think so. If you started organizing your friends, followers and contacts from the beginning, then you know how easy it is to specifically communicate within these lists or groups.
—
Facebook has the Friend Lists, Twitter has Group Lists, Google+ has Circles … AND Linkedin has Tags!
—
Yup, you may or may not know that Linkedin has a feature to organize your contacts by assigning tags to your connections. You are allowed up to 200 unique tags that help you to filter connections for your specific needs.
–
I suggest you use your keywords when setting up your list of tags. Also, your contacts can have multiple tags. This can be helpful when you are ready to do some target marketing within the different areas of your business.
–
If you have been on Linkedin for a while and didn’t know about this feature, don’t worry, because even though it could be time consuming (depending on how many connections you have), it is easy to add tags to your contacts.
–
I show you how to start adding Linkedin tags in my How To video:
Was this a helpful tip? Will you be implementing these tags for your Linkedin connections? Please let me know and leave your comments below.
Make it a Successful Day!

Oh wow.. I had no idea you could do this on LinkedIn. As Roy said, it will be a task and a half to acutally get everyone tagged but well worth it. Lynn your tips on this blog are gold!
Well I certainly love gold, so thank you Bonnie! So kind of you to say. And Roy is right, it will initially take some work, but agree with you as it will be worth it. Thanks for coming by today Bonnie!
Lynn, thanks for this tip. I did not know about tagging on LinkedIn! I’ll definitely be setting this up.
You are welcome Leanne and it is my pleasure to share this tip with you. Glad to hear you find it helpful and I will be coming out with yet another post and video on how to USE these tags for more visibility of your business. So please stay tuned … and glad you stopped by today!

You are welcome Janine. I love finding all these cool features that Linkedin offers and look forward to sharing more! Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Lynn,
Thank you so much for this post and especially the video. As a visual learner, I get so much more out of videos and screenshots.
This was a very helpful post and one that I will certainly implement.
I really appreciate your expertise.
Cindy
Thank you Cindy I really appreciate you letting me know how helpful my video was for you. I also prefer to see how things are set up and work rather than reading step by step instructions. So glad you stopped by to share your positive feedback.
Wow! I am an organization freak and love this newly discovered way to keep contacts organized on LinkedIn! Truthfully, I hadn’t ever explored the Contacts section before and what an easy way to set tags through the list. Thanks for the tutorial video, Lynn!
How does it make a difference if our tags are keywords? Are they searchable and do people know what tags I label them with?
Yes I am bit of an organization nut too Samantha. As for the keywords, I always use my keywords as they are typically your categories, specific audiences and topics or information. I am not sure that search engines can even see these ‘tag’ lists, but keeping everything consistent across my social sites just seems to be easier and could have a positive effect for visibility and searchability. So I guess I am saying it is my preference and not necessarily a scientific proof. But thank you for asking and hope it will help.
When you have one or two associates on LinkedIn (i.e., just starting out using the service), it never dawns on you to organize your contacts. Once you have 100, the concept is daunting. But, your ability to have that framework renders your contact effort and checking-in so much more useful, that it’s worth the time ONCE to start the organization.
Would that we start the process when we begin! But, then again, that’s why we all start somewhere…
Well said Roy and as time marches on, especially with online technology, it will be something we certainly will want to remember for any further social platform developments. Thanks Roy for sharing your comments, really appreciate your input.
It works well just takes time to set up
Yes it does Roberta will have to agree with you there. But for those folks just getting onto Linkedin, they are the lucky ones to learn this stuff and get started in a better way.
