    Hey Lynn, very nice video!

I just wanted to mention, for people that did not receive an email from Linkedin (I didn’t), the best way to add skills to your profile is to click More > Skills, and then search from there. This way it will tell you the skills that you already have and prevent you from adding the same skills twice.

The more intuitive way to go Edit Profile > Add Skills does not check if a skill is already in your profile; it’ll only say that when you want to save and there is no easy way to find the duplicate skills, especially if you have many.

Maybe I should write a more detailed blog post about it so that it’s more clear. It would not be the first time that a webinar, blog post, or comment of yours gave me an idea for a new blog post ;) Thanks for the inspiration!

Oh, and I loved your very personal touch at the end of the video with writing your web site address on paper!

You are absolutely right about that Delia. Thank you for pointing that out. It would make for a good blog post for sure. And if you would like, I would be honored if you wanted to send a link back to this post. So then maybe I will do a video, and link it back to your post?!!

  4. We tend to “set it and forget it” with regards to our social media profiles.  Thanks for reminding us that it is important to go back and update.  Social media networks make changes all the time and we need to keep our profiles current.

    • Lynn Brown says:

That is so true Daphne. Social media platforms are great tools but as you say, they have to be current. If we maintain an updated status on our platforms, that is when we will see the results we are looking for. Appreciate you stopping by today and sharing your comments and advice.

  7. Oh gee more work. I agree – you have a lovely voice

    • Lynn Brown says:

LOL…. Roberta you are so sweet! and yes, more work. BUT, this tip makes it quick and easy. I forgot to mention, you are limited to only 50 skills that you can add to your profile. So that should help a bit on the time thing, right Roberta?! :)

  8. Hi Lynn, that was a helpful tip. I’ve not listened to any video from you before so it also nice to hear your voice! :)

I think I got that email from LinkedIn.  Now that you’ve mentioned it, I’ll check to be sure.  My skills section had a lot of skills in it. Frankly, I thought it seemed like too many so I deleted some of them. So it’s useful to actually see someone else’s profile and know that listing lots of skills is a good idea.  I think I was thinking about it like “keywords” and remembering how you are often told not to list too many. On many of these “profiles” the systems even prevent you from listing as many as you want.

Good stuff … and where is your video series that you mentioned? And … do you have a referral program in place?

    • Lynn Brown says:

Glad you listened in to my video today Vernessa.  You are always so giving and sharing I have to tell you I really appreciate that!

It is a good idea to have your skills and expertise on your Linkedin profile relate to your keywords, however, when people are searching on Linkedin and not necessarily a search engine, ‘other’ skills or expertise helps folks to find you.  As long as they are specific to your business or industry.

And I sent you a message on Facebook Vernessa to give you the links to my video series and video course.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  I know I will see you over on Twitter!
