There is a great way to let others know about your product or service; word-of-mouth marketing. When people have tried a product or service, and they really like it, they will spread the word. There is excitement in the air and it could spread throughout the social networks, going viral.
_
This type of buzz marketing works like a charm letting the satisfied customers tell their story about what they have tried. There is nothing more powerful than happy customers spreading the word about their discovery! (click to tweet) You have little to do but reap the rewards of hard work.
_
There are a few things to consider when you decide to use this avenue to help promote your business. You will want to keep the following pointers in mind in your adventure to keep yourself, and your business, out of trouble.
_
#1 Don’t Sell
Remember that people don’t like high pressure sales. If you are constantly talking about your business, and overly using sales tactics, you will turn off prospective buyers. They don’t want to feel the only reason you are on the network is to make money off them. You need to find a way to connect with your audience, engage them to want to discover you, and your business. Find something interesting to tell them about the industry that you are working in; some facts that they can use and reflect on.
_
#2 Keep It Honest
You will never build a long and trusting relationship with your target market if you don’t keep things honest. People want to be able to trust who they are communicating with. Strive for high ethics and open communication; never lie. When you lie, you ruin the chance for a long term successful business. You may have quick success, but you will also have a short business life; remember, the word always gets out.
_
#3 Don’t Be Fake
One thing that will help you to brand your business, and draw people to you, is to use your name. Let your niche know that there is a real person behind your business name. People are quicker to trust a living and breathing person with their needs than just a business name. Let them get to know you and soon you will have a following.
_
#4 Stay Positive
There will always be some negative when you are running a business no matter how careful or honest you try to be. Don’t let it drag you down. These naysayers love to create havoc, and get the waters stirred up. You need to address anything that is negative right away. Dig in and make sure there isn’t any misunderstanding that can be cleared up. Don’t let the little “debbie downers” get you down. Just rise above it, and instill some positive feedback into the mix. You can do it!
_
There are a lot of benefits to having a great social network for the promotion of your business. Remember that the success of word of mouth marketing is to let your great product or service sell itself with satisfied customers. Don’t let the negative people turn your buzz marketing into a social disaster.
_
Just jump in there, talk and listen, give good content that is relevant to your niche and monitor the negative. In no time you will have a business that sells itself to people that trust you, and what you have to offer.
_
Wishing you lots of chit-chat & social media splash!

There is nothing like good ole word of mouth, but I agree Linda, there is more to it than just telling a couple of people. But it certainly is a start for a new business or online marketer to consider. I appreciate you stopping by today to share your thoughts, hope you will visit again soon.

Hi Lynn,
Very crucial points. They all contribute to word-of-mouth marketing in different ways. I think they all need to be satisfied in some ways. Well, I have doubts too.
I really believe pushing on people with sales is really annoying. As a customer, I will turn off immediately if I feels they are just talking about their business or revenue. It’s a crucial factor on business as I believe. No matter what TRUST if another crucial factor. It takes time to build but few seconds to vanish. Personally I have seen people lying to sell, but eventually they had to go with nothing even without the money they have invested long-time.
I know people always want to know if a business runs by real people. However I have a question for you Lynn. Is it really matters the personal name rather than brand name. A brand name alone can’t grow itself? For example, Google is growing faster with their brand name but we are not interested in Larry Page or Sergey Brin. But still Word-of-Mouth marketing applies to Google too, right?
Cheers…

Hello Mayura! So nice of you to drop in & share your thoughts & comments. As for your question regarding branding & using your personal name…While it is true that, for the most part, the names of owners/CEOs of huge corporations aren’t usually part of the branding (like your Google example), many times the person behind the company/corporation really does play a part (ex: Mark Zuckerberg – owner/founder of facebook). While it’s true that the person behind the scene isn’t extremely important for large corporations, I really do feel it plays a vital role in smaller businesses as well as small market companies. The clients/customers dealing with smaller, less “well known” companies tend to place importance on the person behind the business…is he/she trustworthy…is he/she involved in the local community…does he/she have an established history of success & attention to customer service. All of these questions make a big difference in whether or not people want to do business with a company, as does their rating with the Better Business Bureau and customer reviews easily found online. I hope my answer provided a bit of clarity…it’s just my opinion and others may feel differently.
Hope you have a very enjoyable weekend!
This was one of the best clarity articles in a long while. I agree with each part of this and must say to remain transparent. Do not allow yourself to get into self-promotion and if at all possible create a “Clean Blog”.

Great post and full of life with quality suggestions. There are many ways to catch the attention of readers and the best is to be yourself and allow your life experiences transform into amazing adventures. Each day is shaped by your visions and so why not have them exciting and fun. Then share that with others and what what transforms. It is so wonderful to see and feel.
Thank you Lynn your one of our great visionaries in this industry. One who we can all be proud of as a representative of what good is still left in this world.

William: All I can say is, “Wow!” Thank you so very, very much for the kind words. Your thoughts & comments are a fine example of what drives me to do what I do…to help people attain/maintain success, professionally & personally. I am thrilled that the authenticity and passion I have shined through, sparked an excitement within & re-ignited your power to pursue/achieve what you desire in your life! I love you comment, “Each day is shaped by your visions and so why not have them exciting and fun. Then share that with others and what what transforms. It is so wonderful to see and feel.” That is fabulous advice! I would also like to add that, as we all know, life is not always filled with fun & excitement. But, it is particularly during times of trials & tribulations that we can learn very valuable lessons as well…lessons that can also touch, empower & encourage others. So, don’t be afraid (as we both agree) to be yourself & share all valuable experiences, whether they be positive or negative. Life provides us learning opportunities in some of the strangest ways & we should be open to them all & willing to share whatever we learn with others. Again, many thanks for stopping by & leaving such thoughtful comments. I wish you all the best this week & in the weeks/years to come!
Great points Lynn. Sometimes #1 hard to do in the beginning when no one knows the business but after a while much easier to do.The rest should be easy tips to follow. Who wants to be fake and try to remember who you really are?

Lisa: Not only is becoming/being #1 a difficult task to achieve, but maintaining the high level of service or product quality is equally difficult! That’s where the pearls of wisdom, “Be in it for the long haul” come into play. You’re absolutely correct about being a fake…it’s much too confusing & simply much easier/better to just be who we are. Authenticity speaks volumes in the business world! Thanks for stopping by today and sharing your thoughts. Hope this week (and all others that follow) are productive & successful for you!
Love it. Underpromise and overdeliver. The ticket to success is oh, so many ways.

Roy: I can’t decide if “underpromise & overdeliver” is a good thing or not…
I guess it’s similar to “Prepare for the worst & hope for the best!” — only instead of “hoping” one should plan, plan, plan & work, work, work to ensure a successful outcome! As you & I know, there is no shortcut when it comes to success, right? Thanks for dropping in & sharing your thoughts. Hope your week is a good one!
