I’ll be the first to admit that I sometimes suffer from bouts of self-doubt.
-
When things get overwhelming, or I feel like I have too much on my plate to handle, I sometimes find myself thinking, “Am I really capable of doing this?” And if this sounds familiar to you, then I don’t have to emphasize just how debilitating these moments of self-doubt can be for online marketers, business owners and entrepreneurs.
-
But a successful online marketer understands that these are just brief moments on a journey towards Internet prosperity. Sure, there are times when things can get tough, and we doubt our ability to work through it. Yet squashing self-doubt isn’t just crucial for your peace of mind – it’s also a vital part of building a stronger online business.
-
While you can never get rid of all your self-doubts (we are human, after all!), there are certain techniques you can use for when you want to tell that negative voice in your head to take a hike:
-
1. Self-doubt often arises when we let that nasty voice in our heads take free rein. So if you want to stop doubting yourself, it’s important to recognize when that negative self-talk starts occurring. As soon as you become aware of a negative thought or opinion, vocally tell yourself to stop.
-
2. Remind yourself of your many life successes. Whether it was graduating college or taking a solo vacation, think about all the incredible things you’ve done with your life. When your self-doubt says no, provide it with examples of how you’ve risen to – and beaten – life’s many challenges.
-
3. When the self-doubt gets particularly severe, find a supportive family member, friend or colleague who can snap you out of your funk. They’ll be happy to remind you of how awesome you are!
-
Take the reins and find yourself being much stronger. Don’t let those doubts prevent you from building a wildly successful online business!

How do you handle self-doubt when it comes to your business?

Yes. Self doubts have to be controlled if we are going to have success. We all have them from time to time but we must face them and press on.

Good point Melodie. And I noticed your blog post is about EFT. I was just reading another article yesterday about EFT and how the tapping exercises can be helpful. I tried to visit the blog post but the link is having problems, so I will have to try back a little later.
Thank you for stopping by today and sharing your wonderful comments and advice. Hope you will visit again soon. Have a great day!
It can take a life time to learn to recognize that internal voice that brings forth our self doubt, and even longer to master it.
Lynn you know that I sure have had my share of self doubt. I think it’s perfectly natural to feel a sense of fear when we are starting something new or struggling to work out something old.
It can also be hard to recognize when our fear is telling us we need to leave something alone or it’s just a holy-crap I can’t believe I’m doing this bout of self doubt.
Great tips..especially the one about support.

How true Bonnie, you have a real insight for our inner self and I know that I have told you that before. I love how you verbalize what we can go through and how it is ok to work through it because after all, nobody is perfect.
So much appreciate you sharing your thoughts and advice that I know others will enjoy as well.
The important thing is to keep moving forward when self-doubt attacks us. It is alway too soon to quit.

I hear you on that one Janette, great tip! Appreciate you stopping by today and sharing your thoughts.
Lynn, you always hit right at the heart of things and offer such simple but effective tools for working through challenges like this. Self-doubt can wriggle into different parts of our lives, not just businesses…worth a read for anyone, not just business owners.

Appreciate that Tambre and I can certainly see how it can creep into the rest lives. Glad that you shared that point and thankful for your wonderful support!
Hi Lynn,
I agree with Martha about masterminding and coaches. they are invaluable, but they can’t be with you 24/7. I have sent you a PM with something that might help to fill in those times when the coach is not with you.
Have a nice day

Thank you Madonna for sharing your thoughts on this topic. It is true, our mentors, coaches and groups can’t be there 24/7 so that is when I will lean towards friends and colleagues, especially in my time zone, lol!!
Appreciate you stopping by today Madonna, and hope you will visit again soon. Enjoy your day as well!
Lynn, one of the motivating factors around writing Eat the Rhino was exactly this topic. What goes on between our ears can make or break any business. What we feel and believe set us up for success and failure. What we think to be true so often is for us anyway. We need to learn to learn from our doubts and failures and celebrate our successes rather than keep our failures in mind. What did I learn here. Oh and no regrets…makes it easier. Thanks for the reminder
You explain that really well Roberta. And your book makes for a wonderful reference guide, as you say, to keep us from falling victim to that voice we hear between our ears.
Regrets can and will weigh you down, so I agree with you mentioning that tip as well. Thank you so much Roberta for sharing your wonderful advice today.
Ah, self-doubt. That ailment that sets in two or three times a year, right after i sign all those paychecks. During the two or three slow months of the year. When I consider how many little tummies rely on the efforts we provide..

All I have to say is, “BOY! I certainly needed to hear this message today!”
Thanks, Lynn.
Glad to be of service PeggyLee! lol I really needed it last week and that is the reason why I sat down and wrote this. It was one of those moments in my life where I could have just thrown it all in. Glad I stuck to my own tips.
Happy to have our TLC group too, right?!
Hi Lynn,
Many people have given themselves fully to this nasty voice and the end is that they abandon. Like you said vocally speaking to oneself can be a quick remedy. For those who can’t afford for a coach like @Martha, the three points above will really be of help.
Thanks for sharing

Appreciate your insight Enstine. While coaching is what helped me and my business, I know that people just starting out may not be able to afford. So I am glad that you support the tips that I share to be useful and squash that self-doubt!
Really glad that you stopped by today. Look forward to you visiting again soon.
What has helped me immeasurably is using a coach AND a mastermind group. They keep me grounded and moving forward.

Couldn’t agree with you more Martha. If it weren’t for my coaches, mentors and groups I wouldn’t know or experience all the great things that I have so far. Thank you for making that point Martha, as it is a good one for people to know, coaches are awesome!
