Is It Time to Take a Breather From Your Online Business

Time off your Online Business 300x225 Is It Time to Take a Breather From Your Online BusinessYou already know that building a successful online business involves plenty of hard work.  And when you’re working at a full-time or part-time job, or as a full-time parent, those precious free hours you get to yourself are usually spent building up your online marketing business.
-

With so much hard work required, it’s no wonder you’re feeling exhausted, cranky, and just plain under the weather.  But where do you draw the line between putting in the hard work – and working yourself to the point where it’s actually unhealthy?
-

Believe it or not, this is a common problem with many of my fellow online business owners, entrepreneurs and marketers.  We are a hard-working bunch – and we usually spend most of our free time working on ways to take our businesses to the next level.  But there comes a point in time when even the hardest working online marketer needs to take a breather from the business, and work on mentally and emotionally recuperating.
-

Take it from me — taking a few days off from your online business can work wonders for your sense of productivity, creativity, and sense of self.  If you’re constantly working yourself into the ground, you’ll grow to resent your online business.  And let me tell you that resentment is certainly an emotion that can interfere with your online marketing strategies!
-

So the next time you start to feel very stressed from your business, or feel like you’re at your breaking point, don’t think you need to work through the feelings.  Do yourself a favor and take a couple of days off.  Go for a walk, or spend some time playing with the kids.  Heck, take yourself to an afternoon movie.  Whatever it is that makes you happy, do it.
-

You’ll come back to your online marketing business refreshed and ready to work!

What?  Am I crazy telling you to take time off?  Or was this helpful for you?  Please let me know below.

Wishing you much success in your business!

That’s true. We need to chill for a while to get some ideas that we need. Having little times to relax will surely have some extra thoughts and fresh ideas to put into it.

  3. Hi Lynn,

The rush and tumble of the world is one of the things that make us loose our fantastic ideas on how to generate more business and become more successful. It’s hard when you have to do everything on your own which is why taking a break can refresh your mind completely.

Best wishes to you, for a magnificent weekend.

  4. So much of being successful in business is about control and control is all about knowing when what you are doing is floundering. It is about taking time off whenever. Its why when I have staff, I will sometimes give them a mental health day if they have been working hard. Or give them some extra time when the hours have been long. Life is more than work. Work fulfills our passion while paying for our life

So true Roberta … work fulfills our passion…. that really hits home with me. And you mentioning about recognizing your staff needing that time off is good to hear. Our team is important but they too have to get their motors re-energized. Thank you for coming by today and sharing that important point.

  5. I agree Lynn… I try to keep business to regular hours — and when my husband is not around. So weekends and evenings are off-limits for the most part, other than the occasional light-bulb moment. Yet, I’m blessed in that he understands what I’m trying to build for us and allows me to do what I feel is necessary. But, yes… totally am for down time, finding new ideas come to me more easily and more in number during that time.

    • Lynn Brown says:

That is good to hear PeggyLee. I have to admit that I try to keep my weekends open for family time. Although, like you, building my business does take that extra time and my husband also understands this and is my top supporter!

Thank you for sharing your comments today and glad that you stopped by.

  6. While my corporation is a little different than most of your audience, i follow the same rules. As I tell many a soul, I have the worst boss in the world. I get no vacation, no time off, and my hours are long. While my employees all get their vacation ranging from 2 to 6 weeks, their birthdays off, and 8 holidays a year (minimum), I just take off the holidays where my religion forbids work.
    But…
When I sense I have had enough- or almost enough, I clear my desk, delegate activities that must be done, and vacate the premises. I do no one a service by sticking around. My performance lags, my management skills will be sidetracked, and my client appreciation concept has long since evanesced.
Take heed to Ms. Brown’s advice- before you have nothing to which you can return!

Thanks so much Roy. It certainly brings back my corporate days and I went through many days that I know I should have just ‘cleared my desk and vacate the premises.’ I have to tell you that I initiated a ‘personal care day’ that was approved by management for the bank I was working for. Let’s face it, we all deserve a day off.

I sure hope you get that vacation, you are a hard working professional that is well deserving!

Great advice Lynn, everyone needs a little time away as the song by Chicago went a few years back:) It can refresh your batteries and creativity!

Chicago was a favorite group of mine when I was growing up. Thanks Lisa for the analogy as I agree with you about ‘refreshing our batteries’! Appreciate you stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

Excellent advice Lynn. As I found out lately if you don’t give yourself some time to recharge your body might just decide it for you and that is not any fun. I never considered how it might actually build into resentment but yes…I can totally see how that might happen. Good point!

I think the key is to balance taking a break before you get to the point of needing one desperately and working these creative recharge times into our daily work schedule.

It really does go back to balance doesn’t it? Thank you Bonnie for your insight and comments. Recharging is certainly a good word for ‘taking charge’ of ourselves.
