Is this You? Every day you get onto your computer hoping something will appear to make you jump up and down. Maybe it is that first order, first client, or the first announcement that money actually was deposited into your PayPal account!
Then you ask yourself why? You have the website, the blog, the keywords and pretty much everything that the guru’s tell you must have.
The #1 reason why most online business owners and entrepreneurs will fail —— IMPATIENCE.
Every new entrepreneur goes through the ‘impatient’ period. This is when you can’t eat, you can’t sleep, you get up early and go to bed late all in the effort of creating your online business for success….. AND YOU WANT IT NOW!
If I could interview all the guru’s that are currently making millions or even hundreds of thousands of dollars a year they would all tell you the same similar stories. They started poor, didn’t have a clue what internet marketing was about or they lost their job and they forced themselves to make something happen. Most will also agree that at one point they were ‘impatient for success’. BUT they knew how to manage and overcome their impatience.
While this is true in so many cases I wanted you to know that you are not alone. Everyone has these same feelings one time or another. Those that deny or tell you differently just don’t want you to know that they are struggling to get to the top. But guess what?….. there is a way to overcome impatience and find success.
Staying focused on what you set out to do is only going to keep you moving forward. Now I am not suggesting that you become a hermit or be strapped to your computer. There has to be a balance even if you think times are at there worst, you must overcome impatience. Have time for yourself to relax, be with family and friends and take a breather every now and then. Success does not happen over night and it certainly will not happen if you stay stressed out, frustrated and actually harm personal relationships.
You may say, ‘but I’m not doing that on purpose’, those around you feel it different. They see you always in a fret, worried, angry and frustrated. Get out of that mind set as success comes to those that can think clearly and keep themselves positive and balanced. I have learned that lesson, and maybe it is because I am much older, but still you have to know that first of all you are normal to want to have the success right away. It is normal to get excited about new things you learn that will help you build your business success. It is normal that you worry and fret about your success AS LONG AS YOU KEEP IT BALANCED!
So forget about all the gurus around you constantly telling you they are making millions of dollars – I say, so what, good for them, now how can I tap into their market niche or better yet, get an interview with them. Am I giving you some good ideas?
Now before you take time off, I would like to know how you are going to stay balanced? Let me know below ….. I’ll be jealous if you tell me you are going to Tahiti!!

Impatience leads to stress and other related health problems. Result: setting aside your project you have to proceed on to additional burden of health maintenance. Finally your long term aim is set aside and new additional worry would crop up
This is one of those critical (life altering) lessons that the majority of us learn the hard way, Lynn. I believe it’s because we become obsessed with “dedication and devotion”. There’s nothing wrong with being dedicated to your business, but when it’s at the expense of your friendships/relationships or your well being, that’s when things start to crumble.
Rome wasn’t built in a day and your small business won’t yield the results you desire overnight, either.
I’ve been taking more breaks from being super-glued to the computer the past couple of months and I’m finally at a point where I’m not feeling guilty about it. As you suggested, I feel refreshed and revived and ready to rock and roll after I’ve taken even a brief hiatus.
Impatience is NOT a virtue … Patience is.
Thanks Melanie for your wonderful insight and ideas that will help others. I agree with taking short breaks even throughout the day to help rejuvenate our brains.
Lynn, I too suffer from the impatience bug.. but in the beginning of my online presence I spoke with a woman, I respect @Karla Silver and she told me how it took her three years of living on crackers and peanut butter to finally see her hard work come to fruition. So anyone out there bitten by the same bug take heart and follow Lynn’s advice. Stop and smell the roses, relax, de-stress!
Glad Karla influenced you to keep going. Because one day it is crackers and peanut butter and the next thing you know it will be prime rib and champagne! Well, only if you like that kind of thing!! Appreciate the accolade.
Hi Lynn…
Balance is a wonderful thing. For me it’s reading, listening to music & chatting it up on the phone with an old friend that keeps me mellow & motivated. Oh & switching up locations (sunshine on the deck is my fav). It’s all about the simple things.
I can totally related about the being patient thing too. I’d only add to it, that we must have faith in ourselves, our new pretty sites and our USP. Good will always come.
Cheers to you and your blogging adventures.
Marcelle
Appreciate your response Dreamosity. Switching it up is another great way to bring balance to your stressed out day. Your point about faith is spot on and an excellent point.
Hi Lynn:
It is interesting that you have written this message at this time as just yesterday I was talking to a friend about building their online presence – they have been watching me over the past few years and have been interested in some of the things I have done. What has taken me 2-3 years to do, well they want to do that in 2-3 weeks. I couldn’t have said it better than you did – patience and focus is definitely part of the success strategy.
You have to ignore the overnight promises to the “kingdom of riches” and stay focused on what you are interested in – the best advice I can give someone is stay focused, making necessary changes along the way and don’t get into the mindset that the more sites you have the better you will do (I did and all that did was confuse me and freeze my productivity)
I received a tip from an online marketer a few months ago and it really works well – she told me to work a maximum of 2 hours at a time and then take 1-2 hours off from working on the Internet or even a computer and you will get more done in one day than you would normally get done in 2 – 3 days working straight out. This allows your mind to absorb what you have learned or accomplished and then the 2 hours off gives your subconscious mind time to be creative adding more value to your work.
As we all know time has a way of slipping by fast so before you know it you will be 2 -5 years in to your online business and all of a sudden things will start to click better than ever. It works but not for most because it takes commitment, patience and some serious focusing and that is where the majority fall short BUT this can be changed and more of you will find your success if you can tap into this reality.
Thanks Carl for great feedback and really good ideas. Thanks for sharing your insight and especially about the ’2 hours at a time’, good advice for sure.
