While blogging is a valuable tool for your small business, you need to apply techniques that increase traffic and leads. Your blog should be well optimized, promoted and loaded with relevant content.
For instance, you might want to consider using lists to create content. A list is very easy to write and your visitors will appreciate the simple layout and readability of the text. You can explore other interesting and appealing ways of providing useful articles to your viewers.
If you struggle to come up with blog ideas, consider these business blog ideas that will drive many people to your website.
1. Think about your URL
Your domain name is an important aspect to search engines, so give some thought to choosing your URL. Make sure you use relevant keywords and consider your target market. Focus on a particular niche that will set you apart from other businesses out there.
2. Offer interesting reports or tips
Keep visitors on your site longer by maintaining their interest. Offering video tips, featured articles or a free report that provides immediate solutions or tips can accomplish this. It will also encourage people to sign up and become a part of your list, so be sure to have an opt-in area that is easy to use.
3. Provide basic information about yourself
Share some professional details such as your name, occupation and company information in your business blog. The “About Me“ page is important because viewers can learn more about you and your credentials as they read this section. The key factor in a successful “About Me” page is including, at the beginning, what benefits and solutions your visitor can expect. Consider adding a welcome video that will build a warm connection with your visitor. Again, be sure you have an opt-in area available so your visitor will join your list.

Nice post again Lynn. If I can just add a few tips to your Blog Ideas and driving traffic. Having a blog for your site lets people engage with your company, and engagement is vital in generating more traffic, leads, sales, & money. Be sure to post new fresh content regularly. Use SEO Friendly URL’s. Make your Page Titles for each post specific and targeted to the potential client that your going for. Go for long-tail keywords to get the traffic that will convert, not just click and leave. Again, could go on and on, but don’t want to take up too much space….

Nice quick tips, and I wish it was so easy as it sounds… creating a welcome video needs some special digital media skills with capturing and post processing, I won’t think that most of the bloggers are able to do that…
Judit recently posted..Fogpótlás Közép-Kelet-Európában
Actually Judit there are different ways to make videos. One easy way is an online site like Screencastomatic.com or Amimoto.com which you can do onscreen videos or just a presentation video. Since video is so popular with a huge audience online these days, it is a marketing strategy that has proven results.

Lynn Brown recently posted..How To Add A Custom Twitter Header [Video]
Interesting text, I have already read about the most common traffic generation techniques. I know that there are a couple of common link-building techniques, but some of them aren’t useful anymore, because of the Penguin update of Google’s search algorithms. It filters the over-optimized sites, but in some cases, it pushes down some personal sites as well. Social media platforms are still effective in traffic generation. Buying PPC ads needs a pretty huge investment, and I am not sure if it is worth for that. But I still believe in the content-is-the-king theory.
ora recently posted..Nyaralás helyett fogpótlás
Ora: I’m right there with you on the “Content is king” theory! One could generate and spew out tons of “information” via blogs, tweets, etc…but if there is no valuable content involved or if the presentation is unprofessional, it does more harm than good. I also agree with you regarding budget versus ROI on buying PPC ads. I believe that dedication to quality, determination, utilizing the multitude of social platforms available & actively engaging in a genuine manner provides far better and longer-lasting results. It’s all a matter of budget/strategy/business plan/vision. Thanks for dropping in and sharing your thoughts. I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
You’re quite welcome, angel! I’m always glad to hear that something I’ve written might have sparked new ideas or provided answers to some questions you may have had. Thank you for visiting my site and sharing your comment. Have a super day!
I like your point about tips for your niche. I struggle with our retail sites blogs but if I think of tips more often it will help generate more ideas. I will have to revisit our about me pages and see what I can spruce up there as well. Thanks Lynn. I think it is important to have some info there (on about me page) to bring validity to a website, who is behind the products and sales. I know I always check to be sure the company is not located in China, etc.
Lisa recently posted..Triberr Can Really Rock Your Blog!
Glad I could help, Lisa. You brought up a great point regarding the “About Me” page — revisiting it every so often & “sprucing it up” is a good thing! And…you connected your own experience (checking the location of companies) to what your customers most likely do on your site…so you already know what you want to see on a site & what should be included on your site! That’s half the battle won!
Thanks for dropping by & for sharing your thoughts. Have a super day!
Lynn Brown recently posted..Stop Making Excuses & Start Making Choices
Hi Lynn: The challenge I hear a lot for small biz blogs is finding topics for posts. My most popular posts are lists about post ideas. See, there’s an idea within an idea.
One of my favorite tricks is to simply look at things around me and list them – like 10 items on your desk. Then take those items to come up with post ideas. For example, here are ideas I came up with from listing my cactus that sits on my desk.
How do you handle a prickly client?
Can you find the good (the bloom) in a bad situation? Write about it.
How did you (or your client) overcome a dry spell in sales?

This is a great way to come up with those ideas to write about. Thank you for sharing your insight on this Cathy. This is what I love about blogging and social media, we all can come together, learn, share and grow. Thanks again and have a wonderful day … hope you will stop by again soon!

Lyn. Brilliant piece of content. The whole point, like you say is to put of something that makes your readers connect with you. It has been my experience that personal stories can make a whole world of difference. When I posted my story on my blog it was early days for me but it still scored me 48 leads in less than 48 hours and all i did was tell my story. People love to be inspired and if you can inspire them then they will come back for more. Kerry

That is a very good point Kerry. I am glad your brought up the fact that people really do want to be inspired so telling your story can do just that. I just saw and listened to a video that Gary Vanynerchuk shared yesterday about how he ‘told his story’ and it has proven to be a major reason for his success.

Going back to the About Me page will help remind you of why you started the blog in the first place, assuming that it is done correctly.
Whenever I start struggling for ideas on what to write on my blog, I would usually read on the things happening within my blog’s niche. This gives me an insight on what people find most interesting. At the same time, while reading, I find myself developing my own perceptions and ideas about the topic, and I use that as a starting point for my blog post.

You’re right about how important the “About Me” page can be. It’s one of the pages I update and rework every few months. I agree with Martha about avoiding making the entire page about you, and instead making it about how you can help others. I’ve divided my About Me page into two sections so I can focus on how I can help visitors and then why I’m qualified to help.

That keyword domain name is important. Small tweaks can make a difference but the other side is also to make sure that you are persistent and consistent in what you do. Just putting up a website is just not enough.
Doing an ebook on this topic at the moment.
We share the same insight on that Roberta. “Just putting up a website” is not enough, it takes work and a lot of it. Without that persistence and being consistent you might as well know your goals will probably take a long time to be met, if at all.
A new ebook Roberta? Sounds great …. looking forward to you sharing. Thanks so much for stopping in today and hope you are having a wonderful week!

I always teach my students that the “About Me” is a little about you and a LOT about them (meaning your future customers). All they are looking for is what you can do for them, if you’ve actually done what you are saying you can do and if you’ve had results. It’s the winning combination!

Lynn Brown recently posted..Social Media Strategies That Work
Thank you Lynn, these are really good tips for small businesses to use when building their online presence. I think that the About Me page is an item that can make a big difference in the quality of interaction on a blog. So many times, its like the About Me page is there just because somebody told the business owner that it’s a good idea to have one. But there isn’t really any information on it. And it can help people connect with the site and with the business.
Michael recently posted..Tio, The Prince Cat
So true, Michael. Many business owners don’t appreciate the value of the “About Me” page. Personally, if I don’t see significant information about the company/business owner it makes me wonder…less likely to connect…less likely to revisit or utilize their services/products. Consumers/clients pride themselves in researching businesses via the Internet & they want to see verifiable details or else they’ll continue clicking until they find a business that engenders a sense of trust. So…”About Me” should be a top priority for every business owner! Thanks for your comments & for the link. Have a great day!
