Blog Product Reviews 264x300 How to Write Successful Product Reviews for Your Blog
If you have been blogging for a while
, you will know that certain topics will get more attention than others.

Product reviews is one of these great attention grabbers.  If you write relevant and useful reviews on your website, you will get good traffic and advertising revenue. This is because web users like to read online reviews before they buy a product.-

How Do You Get Started Writing Product Reviews?
-

If you want to put a few reviews on your blog, you should start by writing reviews on products that you already own.  It is important to remember to keep within your niche. For example, if your blog is about reading, you may want to write a few book reviews.  An example of this can be found on a site of a good online colleague of mine, Janette Fuller, who consistently writes outstanding book reviews on her blog.
-

Writing the actual review should be easy. All you need to do is talk about the good and not so good points of the product.  If you are struggling to write the review, you may want to think about what you would want to know if you were reading the review.
-

Ideally, the review will not be too short or too long. The review should be long enough to give the readers helpful advice. However, if it is too long your website visitors may not read the whole article.-
-

Should You Buy Items to do Product Reviews on Your Blog?
-

If you want to blog about products, you may be wondering if you should buy products to review.  The short answer to this question is no.  Most blogs do not generate enough profit to justify buying a product specifically for the purpose of reviewing it.
-

You can gain insight of the product by researching the product and getting feedback from others.  If you are an affiliate for the product, you can ask the product owner specific questions of the product that you can share on your blog product review.
-

Lastly, some companies may give you free products in exchange for a review. If this happens, it is important that you disclose this on your website. This will ensure that you maintain the trust of your readers. If you were given a complimentary item and did not disclose it, some readers will think that you gave a positive review in order to get the item for free.

    Hi Lynn,
As you wrote doing a reviews is a powerful way to get new visitors to your website. The only problem is
that I hate doing reviews on products I didn’t use. I find it dishonest in some way.
So basically I think the best way is not to write a blog which is dedicated for a specific product,
but to write a general blog about products and only review the products you have purchased.
If you review new products, you could easily get the to the first page of Google before other competitors join in.

Appreciate you sharing your comments Janice. When you review products that you have purchased and used will be a much stronger and a different kind of review. However, others find that their time in doing the proper research on products is also helpful to others as they can point out certain things that a consumer otherwise might not have noticed.

Glad you stopped by today and hope you will visit again soon. Have a wonderful day!

Blogging also opens doors for guest blogging appearances since other blog owners will be able to review your writing style and the quality of your content. Those guest blog posts are a great way to expand your network and influence. Thanks for the post, Lynn.

  6. This is really great Lynn. I was actually thinking of posting advice on this great product that I have been using for years, and what you said here is really helpful. I didn’t even think I was making a review but that is exactly what this was.

  8. Hi Lynn,

You’re so right, writing reviews is a powerful way to gain new traffic to your site.

I happen to be in the network marketing niche, and doing reviews on new MLM companies are often easy to get ranked on the first page of google, since there isn’t a lot of chatter if you get are in early. Great way to generate new leads.

I would also add, not only will companies give free products but some companies will post your review/testimony on their website and link back to your site. That is worth it’s weight in GOLD if you are lucky enough to have it happen.

    Thanks for the great advice!

Thanks Richard and also appreciate you sharing that great tip about getting companies to post your review or testimony. That not only helps you attract more traffic, but also helps the site it is posted on, so that is a win, win which is just good business.

Appreciate you stopping by today, I see you on Twitter and you share some really good articles that actually can also pertain to any business or marketer. Hope to see you again soon and have a great day!

    Hi Laynn,

I love to write reviews about websites, online services, software and tools. I normally grab the attention of the owner of the website so he would comment at my blog and thank me for the review. This made a website owner whom just lunched a new website which provides paid online advertising to contact me to review his site; after I post the review he gave me free advertising at his website.
Thanks for sharing your ideas and thoughts about product reviews.

  10. I have only reviewed a few movies and books, when I felt it would be of use to my readers. But, this is cogent advice to those who want to include these pieces on their blog, but I vote you purchsse and resell the object, to insure there’s no concept of bias!
Roy A. Ackerman, PhD, EA recently posted..Really? That’s really your position? My Profile

    • Lynn Brown says:

Good advice Roy! Appreciate you making that point as bias can be perceived as misleading, causing people to think you may not have their best interests at heart. So thank you for adding that to the discussion today!

Glad to see you and hope you enjoyed your weekend!

  11. Kristen says:

So far I haven’t done a lot of product reviews on my blog. I have a few things that I have considered reviewing, but it hasn’t been a major focus of my blogging activities this year. I might work on it in the future, but I have been working to build an audience who might be interested in reading something that I review first! Thanks for the tips!

    • Lynn Brown says:

Since you are already reviewing things before you share with your audience, it would probably be really easy for you to do product reviews too Kirsten. Glad you might give it a try in the future. It is yet another good way to bring visibility to your site.

Appreciate you stopping by today to share your thoughts and comments. Hope you will be back again soon! Have a great day.

  12. Ethical reviewing is so important. I write blog interviews with people who are making a difference by who they are being, actions they are taking, etc. but I seldom review products as it isn’t a fit for my niche. However, I do use good product reviews by others to get informed about things I may potentially purchase so I appreciate when they are well written and there is a need!
Tambre Leighn recently posted..Part 2 ~ Fertility & Parenthood for Cancer SurvivorsMy Profile

    • Lynn Brown says:

That is a good point Tambre, product reviews aren’t necessarily a fit for every business. But your blog interviews are a great way to share information (as you have on your blog) that others may have never known before you shared it.

So I think your comments about interviews are quite similar to product reviews. It is a discussion that informs others that may help them make a decision on what they read or learned.

Thanks so much for contributing your thoughts on this Tambre!

  13. Thank you so much for the kind words about my book review blog. You have provided some excellent tips on writing reviews.
I am very peticular about the items I choose to review. I refuse to spend my time reading a bad book. If I am not hooked in the first couple of chapters, I move on.
A good thing about writing reviews is that you always have plenty of content for your blog.
Janette Fuller recently posted..Book Review: The God Who Sees YouMy Profile

    • Lynn Brown says:

You can say that again Janette! You have a lot of good content on your blog which is supported by your great reviews. I was happy to provide my readers with your link so they could actually see a review site.

Keep those reviews coming Janette and thank you for stopping by and sharing your comments.

  14. Excellent advice for not only writing product reviews but a blog in general. Pros and cons generate interest so that everybody is happy.

    • Lynn Brown says:

I agree Peggy. In general, people want to hear both sides of the story. Reviews is a great way to do that so you are not showing favoritism. But then I see some very successful online marketers really rip into something and they get great results.

Appreciate you sharing your thoughts, thanks for stopping by today and I appreciate you sharing on Twitter too! Have a wonderful weekend.

  15. I have often thought of doing this but…libel laws worry me because if I say something unkind, then I really am uninterested in coping with stupid lawsuits. My opinion is just that….be careful with reviews

And that is certainly what it is, our opinion of what we think about the product, good or not so good. So I agree with you Roberta, it is something to be aware of. And I’m being very selective of products that I use and promote. Everybody has different ways at looking at the same thing …. I guess that is what makes life interesting, huh?! lol

Appreciate you stopping by Roberta and adding your important comments to the discussion.

  16. Lisa says:

I do like to use the product first. I had a situation once where I did not and customers complained of the poor quality. That product immediately came off the website.
So I try to test each brand myself or buy for a friend as a gift. If it is a FREE one I do state it or mention if it’s an affiliate as well.
I do really like your idea to ask the affiliate for more info on their products as one adds more products it will be hard to keep making purchases as you pointed out Lynn.
Lisa recently posted..Social Media Engagement – A Small Business ConundrumMy Profile

    • Lynn Brown says:

You know Lisa you are right, it is a better choice to try the product yourself first. But since I started promoting so many products, I decided to try going to the Affiliate and asking for information. There were a couple of products that I recd so much info, that I felt like I knew the product without having to purchase it.

So I am glad that you mention that. Good to hear from you Lisa, as your comments are always so helpful! Have a wonderful weekend.
