Getting Ahead In The Game Of Social Media Marketing

Social Media Marketing

-

Having an online presence has been a way for people to reach out with ease to others while using social media marketing.  This has been apparent with the emergence of sites like Facebook and Twitter.  Now, more and more businesses are taking advantage of social media marketing to gain the upper hand over their competitors.  And even though millions are making use of this same strategy, basic approaches can still help you get ahead in the game.

Social Media Marketing Staying Ahead Getting Ahead In The Game Of Social Media Marketing

As Facebook continues to be a huge leader in the world of social media, so it only makes sense to make use of it with your social media marketing.  One way to do just that is by attracting leads with Facebook Offers.  Facebook Offers is a type of Facebook ad that can be set up directly from your Facebook page.  While it is great for any type of promotion, it is particularly successful when used to attract legitimate leads.

Social Media Marketing Approach

Another approach to consider taking with your social marketing is engaging with your email subscribers in a whole new way.  While everyone else looks to get new leads through social media, you can use it to build those vital relationships that are ever so crucial in the social world.  While emailing your list every day isn’t ideal, or recommended for that matter, once or twice a week will show that you do care about your prospects.

If you don’t yet have a LinkedIn profile or company page, now is the time to do so.  While this is a terrific branding mechanism for your business, it is equally beneficial for reaching out to your target market.  A lot of business owners and executives simply don’t want the public profile that Facebook offers.  But with LinkedIn, they get a private profile that you can approach them with.

Another simple Facebook tactic to include in your social media marketing repertoire is “liking” your customers.  A lot of businesses take the time to ask consumers to like their brand, but why not start out liking theirs?  With the average person having 120-200 connections on Facebook, you can drastically increase this number by taking the initiative to show an interest in your prospects and customers.

Listen Getting Ahead In The Game Of Social Media Marketing

The final tip to put in your pocket is as basic as they come; LISTEN!  Listen, listen and then take the time to listen a little bit more.  You should never be too busy to listen to what your prospects and customers have to say as they are the ones that make or break you.  By giving all of your attention to the prospect, you show an interest in what they have to say and can really learn a thing or two about what your target market is looking for.

-

In fact, it has been quite instrumental in ensuring the success of my business and in providing the much-needed traffic to my sites.

How To Use Social Media To Get Results
-

The following are among the best social media practices that I have found quite effective in boosting excellent results to my business.
-

1. Utilize social media platforms in tandem.

If you are fond of blogging, then you should consider pushing out your content on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and more recent, Pinterest and other social networking sites.  By doing so, you can reach all your target audiences efficiently.

Furthermore, you might want to use social media dashboard tools, as these are becoming very popular and useful in enabling you to share content easily and effectively. These tools are great for when you want to monitor trending articles or to manage your profile in one place.
-

2. Find out where your customers are.

Make sure you use social platforms where your target audiences engage by doing some research.  Find out the social media tools and sites they use and reach out to them.  Discover new hang outs where they might be visiting that will give you that edge against your competitors.
-

3. Analyze, evaluate and apply effective strategies.

As with any marketing tool, you should test the waters before you apply a new strategy.  If you think your efforts fail to hit the mark, then it is time for you to apply another method.  Make it a point to keep trying and evaluating your progress.  In addition, analyze what successful online marketers are doing, how they are using social media and determine if these strategies will work for you, too.
-

4. Offer something fresh and relevant to your audience.

When you want to have a growing number of loyal fans, followers and customers, then you should not be stuck in a rut. Your main goal is to keep your content interesting, original and exciting for your target audience.
-

When you offer relevant and high quality content, you can expect people to become regular visitors. They may even refer others to check out your site, and this can boost your online presence and success.
-

You can find a number of resources online and use social media that can help you with your goal of marketing online and reaching out to a wider audience and obtaining more customers. These resources can help your business in discovering how you can use various social media tools in connecting with customers, increasing sales and promoting brand awareness. You will also find a number of videos, webinars, and blogs that can engage customers who are instrumental in the success of your business.
-

With all the benefits that social media offers, it is about time that you explore this outstanding tool in ensuring your success as an online marketer.  Keep these tips in mind, and start generating brand awareness and use social media tools that will do wonders for your business.

Top 4 Tips To Attract More Visitors to Your Facebook Fan Page

facebook fans 300x225 Top 4 Tips To Attract More Visitors to Your Facebook Fan Page

How to attract more visitors to your Facebook Fan Page?

-

According to an article published in PCWorld (January 2012), Facebook now has over 1 BILLION users! That’s a pretty incredible statistic, isn’t it? With that number of Facebook users, one can safely assume there are a lot of people that can be potential customers.

_

Two additional staggering statistics are 67% of B2C companies and 41% of B2B companies have acquired customers through Facebook.

_

The question you should be asking is, “How can my Facebook fan page successfully compete with all of the other businesses?”

_

Here are my top 4 tips to attract more visitors and give you that competitive edge:

 _

Plan a Marketing Campaign

The key to this tip is to start with a specific plan. Focus on area of your business, products or services that you would like to highlight and create a detailed marketing plan.  If you choose to undertake this step without a planned process you will lose focus, generating lackluster results in your attempt to attract more visitors to your Facebook fan page or business site.

_

Determine Your Market

The biggest mistake business owners and marketers make on Facebook is lacking knowledge of or understanding their target market. They send messages that are not niche specific, confusing their audience. Target a specific market niche. You might think sending information to the general population will get you more ‘fans’ but, in reality, it can actually defeat your marketing efforts. So, take the time to ‘niche it down!’

_

Marketing Budget

If you are a serious business owner or marketer, a strategy worth considering is paid advertising. Facebook ads are a great way to build your fan base through enticing more people to ‘like’ your page (click to tweet). Increasing your fans means more potential customers viewing information you share about your company, products or services. A good rule of thumb is to begin with a low daily budget and test several ads. Facebook ads allow you to target specific groups of people, skills, locations and even income classes. The key is to dedicate funds for marketing on Facebook in your business plan.

_

Analyze Your Stats

Facebook provides an area called “Insights” that gives you all kinds of information about your current stats. Take some time and analyze these stats. Compare results from one week to another and truly learn what people pay attention to. Facebook makes it easy and breaks it down…from the number of likes, demographics, reach to ‘who is talking about your page.’ This essential information directly relates to your marketing strategies, your business site and what, exactly, your audience wants. Don’t waste time reinventing the wheel! If you immediately respond to these states and make adjustments as necessary, you will create a successful Facebook fan page.

_

Are you looking for more incredible marketing strategies to expand your business while also creating an additional income stream? Try these four tips first and then get in touch with me with any questions you have…or jump in and join my team today!

How Social Media Helps Your Online Business

blog pic 8 141 300x243 How Social Media Helps Your Online BusinessUnless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that a large percentage of people use social media to build their businesses. Unfortunately, some people believe that utilizing social media sites is like magic for their business and…

BOOM bombWHT How Social Media Helps Your Online Business- instantaneous boost in profits! As a result, they litter their web pages with promotional links. Eventually, most business owners discover this method of marketing brings little to no increase in profitability.

_

Many businesses using social web sites don’t use them effectively. Posting too many promotional advertisements makes your followers nervous. They begin to wonder if you are a scam artist or a spammer. The key to using social media successfully is increasing brand visibility, building relationships and using contacts to produce leads.

_

Social media users trust web sites that they frequent. The last thing your contacts want is for their favorite site to become a platform filled with obtrusive advertising. If a social web site user is interested in your product, he or she will follow your profile. It is crucial to periodically update your profile with relevant, useful and interesting information – make yourself memorable and grab customers’ attention! (click to tweet)

_

If your profile offers something of value to your readers, they are more likely to trust you and your business. Followers will be more inclined to make purchases from your site. Your products should be professional and valuable to your clients, creating a desire to purchase from you on a regular basis. Securing satisfied, repeat customers allows you to rely on income generated online.

_

It is not enough to build a fan base and have a large following. You must concentrate on building relationships and sharing your knowledge. Once you capture their attention, you can then engage them and nurture the relationships. Truly understanding who your clients are and what they need enables you meet those needs and begin to see an increase in conversion statistics.

Wishing you an exceptionally success-filled week!

6 Things You Might Be Doing Wrong On Twitter

Twitter Common Errors 300x300 6 Things You Might Be Doing Wrong On TwitterWith more than 500 million users, Twitter continues to be a key factor for online business success.

-

As an active user of Twitter for over two years, I’ve noticed many small business owners, marketers and entrepreneurs not using Twitter to its full advantage.

-

Social media is a tool used to attract, build and gain visibility for you, your business, products and services.  The same holds true for Twitter.  This social media platform offers a goldmine of opportunity.

-
If you want to see positive results for your business, you need to learn how to productively use Twitter.  Twitter and social media are powerful ways to build an online presence, instill confidence in your followers and grow connections that will, ultimately, become paying clients and customers.

-
There are common errors that I’ve seen with Twitter users, which can be easily corrected and will increase your following.

-

#1 – Duplicate Tweeting
Tweeting information more than once is a waste of people’s time & puts your account in jeopardy of being shut down by Twitter for repeating (spamming) your followers. Additionally, Tweet only when you will be most visible.

-

#2 – Use Hash Tags With Caution
Hash tags are a great way to link words for a search. When you have more than two words in a Tweet with hash tags, you’re overdoing it and it is annoying. Use hash tags sparingly and only for key points or words.

-

#3 – Self Promotion Poison
Too much of a good thing can go wrong and so can too much self-promotion. Excessive promotion of your product or service can be repelling to your audience. They want to know what is in it for them, not what is in it for you. Don’t excessively “Tweet” your own horn! In the famous words of Owen D. Young, “When boasting ends, there dignity begins.”  (Click to tweet)

-

#4 – Hello? Is Anyone Here?
Neglecting your followers is the quickest way to lose them. When someone reaches out to you on Twitter by re-tweeting your post, video or some of your information and there is no acknowledgement…it implies you don’t care.  Actively utilizing Twitter for your business is a priority. Schedule special time to get this done.

-

#5 – Complete Your Twitter Profile
You need a complete Twitter profile, with a picture, so your followers know you’re real.  Too many Twitter profiles are incomplete. You need to highlight who you are and what you are all about, according to your industry keywords.  And, don’t forget to smile! First impressions are the most powerful!

-

#6 – Buying Twitter Followers
Save your time and money trying to buy a following. Chances are good that they will not be with you long because you didn’t lure them in with something that they need. Contribute to the community…slowly introduce who you are and what you are all about.  Before you know it, you will have a loyal group of followers that need your product, service, or who are simply interested in what you have to say.

-

Learning the correct way to use Twitter for your online business will build the ‘know, like and trust’ among your followers. Utilizing Twitter professionally and productively will not only grow your business community but also allow you to learn how to use a social site capable of providing tremendous results for your online business success!

Social Media Strategies That Work

Social Media Strategies That Work 300x205 Social Media Strategies That WorkOne of the most important things you can do for the success of your online business is to get into the social media circle. If you want to stay on top of the business world, you have to use all the tools available and learn to work them to your advantage.

-
This is where social media comes into play.  You cannot simply have your business online; you have to get it in front of consumers. Whether you offer a product or service, the quickest and most effective way to let people know about your business is to engage in social media.
-

If you don’t know by now what the social media game consists of, let me give you a few examples:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • LinkedIn
  • Pinterest

These are just a few examples of the numerous social media platforms that you can engage in to get the word out about your business.

Even if you are knowledgeable about the social media arena, it doesn’t mean you are maximizing its benefits. Perhaps you are scared to get started or are unsure exactly how it works.

Here are a few ways people use social media:

> They rarely show up — These people are the least involved.

> They rarely interact — These are the newbies.

> They just watch the action – These are the observers & rarely contribute.

> They click, click, click — These are active users, but lack efficiency.

> They mingle – These are regular users who do a bit of sharing.

> They say, “Let’s roll on!” — These people know where it’s at & use it for all it’s worth!

So where is this headed?  Hopefully, this helps you discover some of the strategies for social media marketing.  You can have a website, a blog, landing pages, sales pages and social platforms … if the traffic is not there, you lose!

Here are some social media strategies to increase your visibility:

1. Build your brand and promote your product or service. Find a network that will send stories or news of your product or services to reporters such as NewsBasis.

2. Create your own custom shortened URL that will advertise and brand your product, service or name. This could send your brand viral and drive a lot of traffic your way.

3. Develop a Q & A site. When you have a site that welcomes questions and gives answers, you build trust…which goes a long way towards branding you as an expert in your field.

4. Find a professional network, like LinkedIn, where you can connect with other business owners, not only to build a list but also to contribute and learn from other business owners.

5. Encourage and set up face-to-face “meetups.” This is a good way to inform online and off-line people about you and it also helps them understand your product or service.

There are many ways to get your name and brand out to your audience — to build your list, but the most important thing is to take action! Far too many times, a business owner simply kicks back and waits for something to happen.  Don’t be one of “them.” Get going and take action today!

Realistic Social Media Strategies For Your Business

Social Media Strategies 300x196 Realistic Social Media Strategies For Your Business

With an abundance of social media opportunities at our fingertips, confusion can easily set in when trying to decide where to get the most bang for your business. You struggle with social media strategies and speculate about which is best for you and your business.

For the past few years, this complaint has been a common refrain among business owners plugged into the social media scene.  Because successfully utilizing social media is a process requiring daily participation, you may feel like you’re banging your head against a wall and pondering if the “prize” is worth the process.

When it comes to social media platforms, many business owners believe quantity prevails over quality…the more social media platforms they belong to, the better their chances of increasing their audience/clientele. Actually, nothing could be further from the truth! Spreading yourself too thin results in neglecting the very thing that could have served you well.

Upon deciding to go the social media route, investigate and target social media platforms most visited by your audience.

A good idea is to focus on two social media platforms. Narrowing your focus enables you to actively, meaningfully, continuously and easily communicate with your audience and monitor responses without experiencing “social media meltdown.” Reserving time to respond to any negative feedback and steering your audience back on track is essential!

Remember…when it comes to employing social media for your business, your main goal is to find which social media strategies and platforms best serve your target audience. Don’t waste time or resources on those that don’t correlate to your product or service.

Finally, it is essential to spend time monitoring, communicating, participating and building relationships. People respond positively to businesses they trust and feel connected to. So…take the leap and build relationships!

Cracking The Puzzle Of Your Facebook Business Fans

puzzle 150x150 Cracking The Puzzle Of Your Facebook Business FansWeb marketers, business owners and entrepreneurs generally agree that Facebook can be of great value. After all, it is a useful tool for branding, creating product awareness and helping to engage your customers.
-

The largest piece of this business puzzle is the fan. There are basically five types of Facebook fans; and each one needs special attention to keep them engaged.
-

Casual Business Fan
-

This Facebook user is not really engaged with you or your product. Somehow they think that just hitting “like” is enough to support you. Sometimes these are employees or friends who want to support you but do not really engage. The way to keep these casual observers is to find a way to get them engaged with various contests or fan recognition projects.
-

Trendy Fan
-

This fan will generally like your business or products but they won’t do much more than keep up with all the latest. However, they will generally let you know when your business does something they disapprove of. To keep them you will have to continue to build a rapport with them and engage directly with any comments they leave on your page.
-

Gamer Fans
-

These fans will just engage with your Facebook page when there is something to win; or if you are giving something away! They generally will not return to your page unless something new comes to their attention. To keep them actively engaged you will have to make sure you are consistent with your contests. This means announcing new ones as soon as the current one ends.
-

Pleasantly Pleased Fans
-

These are the fans that interact regularly with your Facebook page. They can be a great asset because they will keep coming back to talk about their experiences or how pleased they are with the products. They are easy to keep engaged by being engaged yourself. They are likely to share about any information you put on your page.
-

Hopeful Fans
-

These fans are potential customers who heard about your page from someone else and stopped by to see what you have to offer. As long as your page is interesting and relevant they will probably stay engaged. To keep them engaged all you need to do is make sure content is fresh and relevant. Make sure it is easy for them to find your contact information. Then be prompt in your responses.
-

The secret to using Facebook to its fullest is to stay actively engaged yourself. Make sure fans can find what they are looking for and that information is easily available.
-

So what type of fans does your business attract these days? Share your comments and thoughts below on how you are working to keep your fans on Facebook.

Have You Changed Your Twitter Profile Lately

Time To Change Your Twitter Profile 300x240 Have You Changed Your Twitter Profile LatelyThe more I use Twitter, the more value it brings me and my business.  In this world of social media twitter is a very useful tool.
-

Maybe I am a slow learner, but I just discovered recently that your Twitter profile is a key component (along with tweets, @mentions and hashtags) to attracting and building your following.
-

But … how does your profile stand the test of time?  Have you changed your Twitter profile lately?  Heck I didn’t even think that was necessary as I thought I was attracting a good number of followers each and every day.
-

Except now I have learned that there is a thing called Twitter Bio Optimization.
-

Ok … now don’t think this is going to take a lot of work, because I promise it won’t.  But it sure will help you turn your Twitter profile into an attention grabbing, social magnet.
-

So what should you do?  Here are 3 things that I changed on my Twitter profile and am seeing huge results ever since I made these changes.-

#1 – Profile Picture
-

Believe it or not, having a real photograph of yourself is key to people that come to your Twitter account.  This gives visitors a real face and helps establish a rapport with followers when they are checking out your Twitter profile.  If you are in business, your profile image will only help to give your business legitimacy.

_
#2 – Business Info
-
_

Use your real name!  I know you have heard me say this before.  Don’t hide behind a user name or alias.  Business people and professionals want to meet others like them and hiding behind an alias just looks suspicious.  Next, put the location of the business. This helps give followers something concrete and be able to relate to you.
HINT:
Did you know you can add another URL in your Twitter profile?  Take a look at mine.
-

#3 – “Bio” Blues
-
Here’s the tricky part
. You have to create an interesting and engaging bio using no more than 160 characters.  This is where your keywords relating to your business should be used. Be creative in describing the primary purpose of your business.  And also what benefit you will bring to your followers.
-

These are just a few ways to use maximize your twitter profile. There is no way to get more characters so it is important to get as much information in the space allotted – don’t waste any of it!  It is after all, your most valuable Twitter real estate!
-

So are you going to run over to your Twitter profile and make any changes?  If you do, please send me a ‘tweet’ and I will be happy to re-tweet!  Share your comments below.

Using the search function of Twitter will help you quickly find those tweeters with a big following.  Start following them, get into the discussions and when they engage with you, it is Twitter gold!  Just one tweet from one of these popular tweeters will put you into the limelight and provide a huge opportunity for others to follow, as they will become aware of your profile.
-
2)  Tweet At The Right Time … If your business or industry has an audience in a different time zone than you, be sure to tweet during their peak times.  You may want to use a Twitter platform to schedule tweets during the off times if you are not able to tweet at 3:00 in the morning!  Just be sure to check your @mentions first thing in the morning and again later in the evening.
-
3)  Organize With Twitter Lists … As you start increasing the number of followers and those that you follow, start setting up Twitter lists.  These lists is a great way to focus on specific groups of people, stay engaged with them and never miss important tweets.
-
4)  Twitter Marketing Tools …  There are all kinds of online tools that can help you streamline your time in looking for and searching for followers.  Check out my video for more tips on this …. Target Market with Twitter Tools
-
5)  Be A Leader / Be Resourceful … When you share good quality content, links, videos, articles and posts – it is more likely that you will get more people that will want to follow you.  Also, less likely for them to unfollow you!  So don’t tweet every minute with tweets that only have links to your promotions and affiliate products.  Instead, share helpful and useful information for your target market.
-

Twitter is yet another way to provide links back to your blog, as well as reach a number of individuals you may have otherwise not had access to. Establishing a good following on twitter with intriguing posts is a great way to direct more traffic to your blog and establish a larger group of followers.
-

Take a moment to explore the platform and look into what “tweets” are the most successful and what members have the highest amount of followers, especially within your niche market. Learn from others to produce the most beneficial usage of this specific social media platform.

How to Deal with Facebooks Many Changes

Social media Facebook Changes 300x230 How to Deal with Facebooks Many ChangesAs online marketers, there’s no denying that we’re required to keep up with plenty of changes.  From the latest advances in software to new marketing trends (video blogging, anyone?), it goes without saying that being on top of your online business means being adaptive to significant change.
-

But I know that when it comes to experiencing change, there’s one place where we feel more exasperated than inspired.

That’s right, I’m talking about Facebook!
-

If you invest heavily in your social media marketing like I do, then I’m sure you’ve dealt with the many frustrations that come hand in hand with Facebook’s constant updates and changes.  Just when you think you have a handle on the latest change, Zuckerberg announces that they’re about to make new changes to their social media empire – and you’re left scrambling trying to figure out what it means for you and your online business.
-

Hey, I’ve been there.  But here’s the key point to keep in mind — these changes are merely superficial.  In other words, the constant Facebook changes don’t affect the fundamentals of your online business.  It provides a platform for your fans to connect and share ideas about your business, discuss the latest industry trends, and even post reviews about your products and/or services.
-

And no matter how often that platform changes, keeping these fundamentals in the center of your social media marketing strategies will help you adapt to whatever comes your way.
-

So what’s my bottom line here?  When it comes to Facebook changes, don’t sweat the small stuff.  Keep an eye on the bigger picture, and you’ll welcome any changes with open arms.
-

How are you handling the Facebook changes or any other changes that come your way in your business?

Why Do You Want More Twitter Followers

Twitter Follow Button Red Why Do You Want More Twitter FollowersThe question of this post might surprise you.  After all, everyone wants more Twitter followers – it shows that you’re a powerful Twitter user, with plenty of people who are eager to see updates from you.
-

But that doesn’t necessarily answer the question – and if you want to be a successful online marketer, you need to answer that question.
-

So as a successful online marketer, why do you want more Twitter followers? It’s about so much more than seeing those follower ‘numbers’ grow in leaps and bounds – it’s about knowing what to do with those followers once you have them.
-

With that in mind, it’s time to come up with a list of reasons why you started using Twitter in the first place.  As an example, here’s what my list looks like:
-

  • I want to increase awareness of my brand.
  • I want to promote my services to pre-qualified traffic.
  • I want to drive traffic to my blog.
  • I want to reach out to peers in my community to share knowledge.
  • I want to be seen as a leading expert in my industry.
    -

This list could go on, but the point here is this: once I know precisely what I want to do with Twitter, I’ll have a better idea of what to do with my followers.  That in turn gives me a better answer to the question, “Why do I want more Twitter followers?”
-

Once you define what your Twitter goals are, you’ll have a better idea of what you should tweet – and your Twitter account will start to become more accurately aligned with the overall goals of your online marketing business.
-

I would like to hear from you … why do you want more Twitter followers?  Please add to my list and leave your comments below.

Social Marketing on How to Own Your Facebook Newsfeed

Facebook Newsfeed Social Marketing on How to Own Your Facebook NewsfeedJust when you think you figured out Facebook,                  Mark Zuckerberg tosses a new obstacle in the path of social marketers.  And if you haven’t figured out how to master this new change, you might as well kiss your status as an in-the-know marketer good-bye.
-
That’s right — I’m talking about your Facebook Newsfeed!

In an effort to make things simpler for Facebook users, Zuckerberg developed a new algorithm that determines what friends you follow the most, what stories will appeal to you, and what you’ll be most interested in reading.  However, as well-intentioned as this change was, this means that online marketers are potentially missing out on new updates from their customers (and those updates just might have something to do with your online business!).
-

So what’s a savvy social marketer like yourself to do?
-

Adjust your timeline to reflect all your customer updates with the following steps:
-

  1. Go to your Newsfeed and click on the “Sort” tab.  You’ll immediately be presented with two options: sort by “Top Stories” and “Most Recent”.  If you click on the “Top Stories” option, you’ll be letting Facebook Newsfeed Most Recent 300x119 Social Marketing on How to Own Your Facebook NewsfeedFacebook take the reins in deciding what’s most interesting to you.  Click on “Most Recent” to start seeing an in-depth and chronological timeline.
    -

  1. Mute the people, pages, and applications that have nothing to do with your business (or any that just annoy you!).  Just hover your mouse over the top-right of the update, click on “Hide all by”, and you’ll never have to see those annoying updates in your Newsfeed again.
    -

  1. Manage your Timeline even further by heading to each of your customers’ profile pages and clicking on “Subscribe”.  This ensures that all of your customers will show up in your Newsfeed when they make updates.  It might be a bit time-consuming, but it’s worth it for busy online marketers!
    -

Use these updates to keep your Facebook Timeline recent, and you’ll never have to worry about missing what your customers or clients have to say!
-

Let me know in the comments below, if this was a helpful tip — or have you been using the Facebook Newsfeed and can share some marketing ideas.

Wishing you a highly profitable and successful day!

Recognition Tweets Matter For Twitter Marketing Success

Social Media Marketing 300x225 Recognition Tweets Matter For Twitter Marketing Success

-

As a Twitter marketer, what do you think of when you think of your fellow marketers?

You probably think that you need to do your best to avoid mentioning any of your competitors – after all, if you mention your competitors, you risk having your readers run off to see what they’re all about.

What if I told you that mentioning experts in your industry – even your competitors – is one of the sneakiest ways you can become an expert online marketer?

It’s true – and I’ll show you why:

CREDIBILITY:  Recognizing an expert or competitor by using the @tag will establish you as a credible marketer in your industry.  After all, canoodling with the experts is a great way to make yourself appear on par with them – and if you’re associating with your competitors, your customers will certainly come to regard you as a confident marketer.

VISIBILITY:  Using the @tag also establishes a significant amount of visibility for you.  Let’s say you recognize an expert in your industry in a tweet.  Suddenly, that tweet appears on their Twitter feed – and you’ve just exposed yourself to a whole new base of pre-qualified readers.  It’s a sneaky way to steal readers who are guaranteed to be interested in what you have to say!

When it comes to Twitter marketing, recognition tweets matter.  So don’t keep your accolades to yourself – spread the wealth and increase your readership!

What do you think?  Are you creating credibility and visibility through your tweets?

Social Media Tools Are Not Magic Wands

Social Media Tools 300x240 Social Media Tools Are Not Magic WandsWith all the buzz about social media, it’s no wonder more online marketers are looking to the world of Web 2.0 for comprehensive ecommerce solutions.  While I’m the first to let others know about the power of social media marketing, I do have to give my readers a warning…
-

Social media sites are tools – not magic wands!
-

During my consultancy career, I’ve seen far too many skilled entrepreneurs put 100% of their faith in social media.  They upload a Facebook fan page, start posting to Twitter and make connections on LinkedIn – and only giving a very short time, they are surprised when they don’t reap the kind of profits that other marketers seem to make on a constant basis.
-

That’s because savvy online marketers know that social media sites are part of the bigger picture.  When it comes to an online business, I like to think of an optimized site as the foundation, social media as the walls, and direct marketing as the roof.  None of those components make a successful online business on their own, but together, they create a powerful recipe for success.
-

So what’s my bottom line here?
-

It’s simple, use social media for the powerful tools that they are, but don’t forget that they should only make up a part of your overall online strategy.  By combining social media sites with other ecommerce marketing methods, you’ll be right at home among the marketers who are always boasting about their online profits!
-

Now tell me what your thoughts are about social media and if you agree it is part of the bigger picture to your online business success?

A Facebook Mistake You May Not Realize You Are Making

Facebook Fan Page Mistake 300x300 A Facebook Mistake You May Not Realize You Are MakingOkay fellow online marketers, it’s time to get serious about a certain Facebook mistake that I’ve seen made by both beginners and experienced marketers alike.  And if you’re guilty of this, consider this post to be a much-needed reminder.

What’s this Facebook mistake, you might ask?  Simply … it’s oversharing
personal information with your fans and friends.

Here’s a true story:  I’m a fan of a fellow online marketer’s business page (she focuses on coaching).  She’s smart, has a fantastic service and has big goals for 2012.  But you wouldn’t know that by taking a look at her Facebook Fan page.  From political statements about the 2012 campaign to posting poetry about her children, her business page reads more like a testament to her personal life.   I would say that 80% of her fan page is all personal information.
-

And I have a slight suspicion that it’s definitely affecting her social networking strategies!
-

Now, you might not be guilty of what I believe to be a marketing mistake – but if you experienced a slight twinge of guilt at the above sentence, then it’s time to look through your Facebook fan page and take a look at just how much you’re sharing with your audience.

-

  • Do you frequently post about any personal activities?
  • Do you link to articles that might be seen as overtly political or religious in nature?
  • Do you share one too many stories about your family/friends on your business page?
    -

If so, it’s time to pull back your personal info, that is what the personal Facebook page is for.  You might think this is a great way to reach out and connect with your audience, but trust me – oversharing your personal information will drastically affect your ability to convert fans into customers.

Remember, the ultimate goal of your Facebook page is to have your fans see you as an involved industry leader – not as a close friend who dabbles in marketing every now and then.  Engage with your Facebook fans by posing a question that is business related, within your market niche, to get a conversation going.

If you see that you are sharingmore personal information then business with your fans (your Facebook business page), I suggest that you save the family stories and political messages for your personal Facebook page!

Your turn … Let me know your thoughts and comments below.

Is Follow Friday Hurting Your Online Marketing Efforts

A topic that has been going around for a while now ….
The pros and cons – here is my take.

-

As a Twitter user, you’ve likely seen the “Follow Friday” hashtag (#FF) being used left, right and center.  If you’re new to Twitter or haven’t gotten around to delving into the meaning behind this symbol, then here’s a quick recap for you: the Follow Friday hashtag is used when you want to recommend a friend or colleague to your Twitter Twitter Follow Friday Hashtag Is Follow Friday Hurting Your Online Marketing Effortsfollowers.
-

The ultimate goal of using Follow Friday is to get your readers to follow the friend, or at least check out what they have to say.
-

However, in recent months, there’s no denying that Follow Friday has become extremely popular, if not overused altogether.  Many online marketers are comparing it to Twitter spam, as it’s far too easy for people to blatantly plug other people and services with just the stroke of a few keys.
-

I myself would have to agree with this assessment – I think the Follow Friday hashtag has turned many Twitter updates into spam messages, which isn’t exactly something followers want to see every time they log onto Twitter.  I’d even venture to say that Follow Friday could be hurting your online marketing efforts, as followers are quickly starting to associate this seemingly innocuous symbol with pushy sales pitches and thinly disguised attempts to sell stuff.
-

However, that doesn’t mean I think you should never recommend a friend’s services or Twitter page to your readers – rather, I believe it’s more important for online marketers to give personal recognition when its well and truly due.  By reducing the amount of Follow Fridays on your Twitter profile, the likelihood of your readers to actually follow your recommendation increases exponentially – after all, if you’re sparing with your recommendations, then it really must be good!
-

So what do you think?  Do you think the Follow Friday fad is over?  Or are there better ways to recommend other Twitter profiles to your followers?

Reasons Why I Love MarketMeSuite

Why I Love MarketMeSuite 300x225 Reasons Why I Love MarketMeSuite
I’ll admit it
: I’m absolutely gaga and head-over-heels in love with MarketMeSuite – and if you use Twitter for your own online marketing purposes (which I hope you do!), then I’m pretty confident you’ll be shouting your own declarations of love in just a few minutes.
–

If you’re the kind of business person who wishes for more automation to give you more time in your day, then MarketMeSuite will do just that.  Essentially, MarketMeSuite is a free social media dashboard tool that allows you to check out what’s being said about you on Twitter and other social sites.  It’s like Google Alerts for Twitter: every time your brand is mentioned via a hashtag – or even indirectly – MarketMeSuite will immediately pick up on it and alert you to what’s being said.
–

In addition to giving marketers the opportunity to learn more about what’s being said about their businesses, MarketMeSuite allows busy marketers the opportunity to set up reply campaigns, schedule tweets (even a year out!) and built-in link shorteners, no need to pre-shrink those long URL’s!

This tool does it all – you can search for conversations via industry keywords, geo-targets and even negative words, so you can start contributing to the chatter within an easy-to-use dashboard format.  It’s the perfect resource for the busy online marketer who wants to significantly cut down on the time it takes to engage with social media users and give you a marketing edge.

Can you tell that I really love MarketMeSuite yet?

Because I’m not done with my high parise to MarketMeSuite, here are a few more reasons why I think every online marketer should have this tool:

  1. It makes it incredibly easy for online marketers to find what’s being said about their business.  This allows for opportunities to address reviews, highlight feedback or just tune in on what customers are saying.
  2. It’s also an intuitive social media dashboard, meaning you won’t have to spend hours trying to figure out how to use it (always a bonus!).  And should you get stuck or have a question, their customer service is first class.
    –
  3. This is the best feature:  MarketMeSuite allows you to brand yourself in a unique way.  When you post status updates on other dashboards or Twitter, the message is usually followed by a promotion from one of these sites (for example, “via HootSuite”  “via Twitter” “via TweetDeck”).  However, the MarketMeSuite allows you to brand yourself by posting your updates, followed by a link to your site rather than to HootSuite or TweetDeck.  Genius!
  4. This platform just recently added features to manage your Facebook (including groups and pages) and Linkedin accounts too!
  5. MarketMeSuite has the ability to add users to your account, like executive assistants or virtual assistants, to help manage your account.
    –
  6. Did I mention it’s free?

Measuring Your Social Media ROI for Facebook and Twitter

Social Media Metrics ROI 300x200 Measuring Your Social Media ROI for Facebook and TwitterA traditional website’s ROI (or return on investment) has always been a tangible, measurable metric – however, as a social marketing coach, I’ve noticed that measuring social media ROI presents a specific challenge to us.

Using the term ROI to detail the benefits that we get out of using Facebook and Twitter can often be an inaccurate phrase, as social media tends to deal with immeasurable and qualitative concepts, such as brand awareness, brand loyalty and building trust.
-

In my mind, the bottom line is this: it IS possible to “measure the immeasurable,” so we can determine just how much of our social media investments are paying off.  The key lies in thinking outside of money, as social media can boost more than your bottom line:-

  • Be sure to choose metrics that actually make sense for your business.  Here’s a helpful hint: avoid using the number of followers you have as a metric, as a successful ROI should involve more than getting attention.  For example, your metric could involve the number of new customers you receive via your Facebook and Twitter profiles, or the number of influential blogs that link to you.   It’s really all up to you!
    -
  • Set your campaign goals to be based on these specific metrics.  For example, if you would like to start calculating your monthly ROI based on new customers that have “liked” your Facebook page, then you’ll need to track the monthly revenue that’s generated from new customers who found your company through Facebook.

By thinking beyond conventional metrics,  it’s possible for online marketers to measure their social media ROI.  Just be sure to specifically indicate which metrics you’re using when calculating your Facebook or Twitter ROI to avoid lots of confusion!
-

I know that social media ROI is and has been an ongoing discussion with all kinds of opinions.  Well, I would love to hear what you think on how ‘tracking’ your ROI has helped your business –please leave your comments below.

How to Tell if Your Readers are Still Awake

Social media engagement 300x212 How to Tell if Your Readers are Still Awake

As an online marketer, you’ve definitely heard the term “social media engagement” before.  You know that the idea behind using social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are to spread ideas, engage with your readers and build up a better online brand.

 –

But when it really comes down to it, are you truly engaging with your readers?  Or are you putting them to sleep with your one-way conversations?
-

You know the kind of posts I’m talking about.  The posts where you simply state a fact, or a link to an interesting article, or even a link back to your site, without taking the time to engage with interested readers.  Hey, it happens to the best of us.  We’re busy marketers who are managing multiple sites in a normal workday.  It’s easy to let a few comments fade to the back-burner, telling ourselves that simply updating our profiles is enough to keep readers interested.
–

But in my humble opinion, uploading posts, comments and updates without taking the time to engage with reader comments (in other words, ignoring social media engagement) is akin to talking to yourself.  No one can get a word in edgewise – and eventually, people will start tuning you out altogether.

It’s safe to say that as an online marketer, that’s the last thing you want to happen!
–

So here’s my challenge to you: take a look at your relevant social media sites, and see if you’re truly embracing the concept of social media engagement.  Look through your reader comments.  Are they interested in discussing industry topics and ideas with you?  Are they asking open-ended questions?  If your readers look like they want to engage with you, then don’t be shy – start talking!

Of course, if you’re worried that a lack of social media engagement has left your readers half-asleep, it’s time to  shake them awake with clever ways to strike up a conversation.  These methods – which come from my good friend and business colleague, Melanie Kissell, Solo Mompreneur where she writes aboutAre You Hitting the Reply Button” – can include:

  • Polls;
  • Posting controversial/thought-provoking industry articles;
  • Asking readers to suggest a topic;
  • Posing a question asking for help;
  • And revealing a challenge or hardship you face.
    -

Your readers are desperate to talk to you – and thanks to social media engagement, you can get the conversation flowing!

Let’s hear how you are keeping your readers interested, engaged and coming back to your site, share your comments below.

Daily Vitamins for Social Media Marketing Entrepreneurs

A Vitamin of Choice for an Entrepreneur …. is B1

Entrepreneur Taking Daily Vitamins for Success 241x300 Daily Vitamins for Social Media Marketing EntrepreneursWhen it comes to being a successful online entrepreneur in social media marketing, there’s no denying that there are certain steps you’ll need to take every day in order to accomplish your goals.  In fact, I like to compare a successful social media marketing formula to taking your daily vitamins: the longer you stick to the routine, the more you’ll start to feel invigorated, powerful and completely capable of achieving all of your online goals.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the “daily vitamins” for social media marketing entrepreneurs:

  1. MOTIVATION:

Let’s face it: whether you’re a social media marketer on the side or you do it as a full-time career, it can be hard to get the self-motivation you need to start your day on a positive note.  Perhaps you get too distracted by household chores, or you give in to your tired feet after a long day at work.  Whatever the case, your first daily vitamin should be to do a social media marketing task that you consider fun.  Respond to some positive fan notes on your wall, or simply tweet a link to a great article you discovered in this morning’s paper.  Either way, doing something fun will get your entrepreneurial juices flowing – and you’ll be less likely to turn in after you’ve accomplished this task.

  2. ROUTINE:

Another daily vitamin for social media marketing entrepreneurs is to stick to a routine that resembles your usual 9 to 5 ventures.  When you’re working for yourself at home, the last thing you may feel like doing is to wake up at the crack of dawn and put in a full day’s work.  But the idea of a routine is one thing you should take home from your old nine to five world, as it will help you keep on course with all your social media marketing efforts.

  3. WELL-BEING:

Finally, the most important daily vitamin for social media marketing entrepreneurs is to take care of yourself.  When you’re in the midst of your social media efforts, you may ignore spending time at the gym, eating well or actually getting a full night’s sleep.  But think about it: you became a social media marketer to escape the rat race.  Don’t let yourself slip into a work schedule that’s even worse for your health and sense of well-being.

Take these three daily vitamins as a social media marketing entrepreneur, and you’ll be enjoying a life that’s filled with online riches!

What ‘vitamins’ are helping you towards being a healthy, wealthy and successful entrepreneur?

Easy Video Marketing Tips for Social Media Strategy

Business Owner Video Making with WebCam 300x274 Easy Video Marketing Tips for Social Media StrategyVideo marketing is the most important tool any small business owner, entrepreneur or professional could hope to have.  After recently going through a video coaching program, I discovered using video allows your audience to get a better picture of who you are, builds confidence, and even regard you as an expert in your specific market niche.

So if you’re not using video in your current social media marketing strategy, it’s time to whip out a webcam and get started.

Whether you’ve never made a video before or like to dabble in it, these easy video marketing tips will get you going with your online video campaign:

  1. Don’t forget your SEO strategies when engaging in video marketing.  Make sure your video title is optimized with your most powerful keywords; also, be sure to optimize your description tags and keyword tags with your most profitable search terms.  Remember, just because it’s a video doesn’t mean you should throw everything you’ve learned about SEO techniques out the door.
  2. Make sure that all of your videos contain an HTML link.  However, don’t place it as a watermark on your actual video, which can be pretty annoying.  Instead, put an HTML link in your video description, place one in the bottom corner of your video, and make sure your video ends with a strong call-to-action that contains your HTML link.
  3. Provide killer content that your clients will love.  Think of it as a great way to get current news, insider tips and other information to your clients.  Additionally, don’t take too long to get to the good stuff – your clients will quickly become bored.  Keep your videos short, focused and to the point.
  4. Finally, accompany your video with a slide that sums up the information you’ve been talking about.  This helps your clients who may not want to sit through your speech get to the best information and still discover your HTML link.

These easy video marketing tips will ensure that your next major online campaign is your most profitable yet!

Your turn … are you using video marketing as part of your business strategy?   Leave your comments and let me know if there are other tips that have helped your videos get noticed by your audience.

A Key Social Media Marketing Tip to Live By

CEO Entrepreneur A Key Social Media Marketing Tip to Live BySocial media marketing often feels like you’re on one long vacation.  After all, who else can say that they’re making a living by spending their days on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn?

But this informal approach to online entrepreneurship can set you up for a major trap – a trap that’s so detrimental to your online
success, you could end up undermining your own bottom line.

So what’s this trap, you might ask?  Is it being too pushy with sales?  Is it getting into arguments with your online posters?  Is it ignoring the need to keep your posts updated with fresh content?

Not exactly – in fact, the trap has nothing to do with social media marketing.  It has more to do with the way you approach your at-home work.

Not sure what I mean here?

Okay, let me explain.  How many times have you sat in front of the TV and spent the afternoon channel-surfing while focusing on social media marketing?  How many times have you let a sink full of dishes or a crowded laundry room distract you from getting the task done at hand?  How many times have you given up on a day of work because the kids were too distracting, or you wanted to sleep in?

That’s exactly what I’m talking about.  These little distractions or days off can add up to a major drain on your bottom line – not to mention that it quickly chips away at your sense of discipline and motivation.  So what are you supposed to do?

Use this key social media marketing tip to live by:  Treat yourself like a Fortune 500 CEO.

If you’re ever tempted to do laundry instead of working, or sleep in just for an hour longer, think to yourself: would a Fortune 500 CEO do this?  If you want to spend the day working in your PJs in front of the television, ask yourself if a Fortune 500 CEO would do it.

Use this social media marketing tip, and you’ll have the discipline you need to make your online fortune.

What do you think?  Am I on track or way off base – let me know by leaving your comments below.

Social Media Marketers Beware Of Time Consuming Traps

Social Media Marketer Time Consuming 205x300 Social Media Marketers Beware Of Time Consuming TrapsAs a social media marketer and online entrepreneur
, there are plenty of tasks that keep your daily schedule as busy as your old 9 to 5 job.  After all, there are blogging strategies to look after.  Video marketing links to update.  And let’s not forget your fans and followers, who all look forward to your daily updates and insights into your specific marketing niche.

While there’s plenty of work for you to focus on, there’s no denying that there are a host of time-consuming traps that all social media marketers should be aware of.  Like a Fortune 500 CEO, your time is incredibly precious – and if you waste even a moment of it, you could end up with ignored clients and lost profits.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the biggest time-consuming traps for social media marketers:

  • Answering individual posts.
In the beginning of your social media marketing venture, you might have engaged in the habit of answering all individual posts.  While that was a great way to build your fan base, there’s no denying that answering all individual posts isn’t just time-consuming – it’s not very productive.  Answer the posts that are the most relevant to your industry, or outsource your follow-ups to a talented writer who can accurately capture your voice.
  • Spending all of your time on social media marketing.
Unless you’re being paid to engage in social media marketing by a third-party company, spending all of your time updating your Twitter profile or Facebook account won’t help you turn those fans into loyal customers.  Prioritize your traditional marketing efforts just as much as your social media, and you’ll make more profits.
  • Writing social media messages.
Studies have shown that messages sent on a social media platform are less likely to convert fans into sales than traditional direct marketing tactics, like email lists.  If your ultimate goal is to turn your social media fans into customers, use your accounts to provide free information and reports – if fans sense that your Web 2.0 accounts are being used solely for the purpose of making a dollar, you’ll lose them in a heartbeat.

If you want to be a successful social media marketer, don’t get caught up in these time-consuming traps!

Leave your comments on how are you staying ‘out of these time-consuming’ traps?

How to Ensure Readers Look At Your Profile Updates

Profile Updates and Messages 300x240 How to Ensure Readers Look At Your Profile Updates There’s no denying
that those readers who’ve opted in to be your friend, follower or a part of your LinkedIn network are the lifeblood of your online business.

For example, a recent report from Internetretailer.com - (Social Media Users Are 83% More Likely To Be Loyal Customers) –showed that these readers are 83% more likely to buy from you than an untargeted reader.

But that doesn’t mean sending a message or updating your profile will automatically translate into sales.  So how can you ensure that readers look at your profile updates and messages?

Simple: use these ridiculously easy hints and tips!

  • Whatever you do, don’t pester them.  Aim for two to three private messages each week and a profile update each day: anymore than that and you’ll be considered annoying; any less and they’ll forget who you are.
  • Make your status updates and messages as informative and compelling as your free reports and articles.  For example, reveal a secret about your industry, and encourage them to learn more great secrets and other information to peak their curiosity.
  • Offer your friends or followers special discounts for your new product launches.  They’ll really appreciate the red carpet treatment – and you can guarantee that this will equal higher conversion rates!
  • Don’t update your profiles during busy work hours, as your customers will be distracted by work/social obligations.  Research has shown that when it comes to updating social networking sites, lunch hours, Monday mornings and Friday afternoons result in more views.

The main point of social networking is to keep a good relationship with your customers.  Not only is it far cheaper to hold onto an old customer than acquire a new one, but customers who’ve purchased from you once before will continue to be repeat customers down the line.

Repeat customers lead to great testimonials
, fantastic word-of-mouth recommendations and can even lead to new online marketing opportunities.

Let me know how these tips will help you attract more visitors to your profile, or share other techniques to add to the list!

How will the Recent Facebook Changes Affect Your Online Business?

Facebook Frustration How will the Recent Facebook Changes Affect Your Online Business?
There’s a popular saying
that there are only two things that are certain in life: death and taxes.  Well, I’m willing to add another certainty into the mix – Mark Zuckerberg will inevitably change the fundamentals of how to use Facebook.

A few weeks ago, Facebook went under yet another change to its main homepage, throwing the online world into a tizzy.  Online entrepreneurs who were once comfortable with how to use Facebook are now questioning what these new changes mean for their online business – and if these changes make it harder for their clients to stay in touch.

With that in mind, let’s take a quick look at how the recent Facebook changes will affect your online business:

  • First, don’t panic about all the status updates from customers who want to get rid of Facebook.  This social giant has over 750 million users who’ve endured multiple changes to the site – and given its incredible presence in day-to-day life, your clientele base isn’t about to go anywhere.
    –
  • Facebook recently added a ticker to the top right corner of your home page, which updates client activity in real-time.  It’s now become much easier for you to see exactly what your friends are doing, and when they’re doing it – which is something that even the News Feed can’t promise you.
    –
  • Facebook plans to roll out new business-friendly changes in 2012 by giving every business page $50 free dollars to use on Facebook ads.  If you’ve ever wondered if you should give Facebook ads a go, you might want to hold off until early 2012, when you’ll be able to experiment for free.

Facebook will inevitably change its interface again – but it’s clear to see that as Facebook continues to grow and transform, it’s becoming savvier towards its online business users, which represent a large part of its clientele base.

How has the recent Facebook changes affected your business?   Good or bad, share it all!

How to Come Up With Engaging Social Media Status Updates

social media engaging small How to Come Up With Engaging Social Media Status UpdatesFor those online entrepreneurs who are new to the social media networking world, the prospect of developing new and fresh profile updates and statuses can seem rather intimidating.

But don’t let the task scare you off from taking advantage of this great backlinking strategy, as status updates (on Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, etc.) and profile messages can significantly boost the amount of traffic that visits your site.

Additionally, these status updates give your business a professional quality that can transform traffic into loyal customers – and you from just another social networker to social media royalty!

So what’s the secret to writing engaging social media status updates?

In my opinion, it’s a lot like writing an online blog post.  You’ll want to make sure that your statuses are stuffed with tons of relevant and compelling information.  You’ll have to include links back to your website so that interested customers can follow up with you.

The only difference is that the status update needs to be more “newsworthy.”  It’s simple to get this impact by just throwing in a couple of quotes about your business, and voila – you’ve got yourself a newsworthy status update that’s sure to capture your readers’ attention.

Follow these strategies to really give your social media status updates some extra “oomph”:

  • What’s happening in your industry? Anything newsworthy? If something major has hit in news in recent weeks, then take
advantage of recent events to write a status update on the subject.  This will give you the newsworthy and
informative angle you need while providing your readers with backlinks to your website.
  • Don’t overtly sell your product or business in the status update.  The only exception to this rule is if you’re offering a discount on your product, if you’ve developed and launched a new product line or if someone in your online company has been promoted.
  • Again, be sure to insert a backlink to your website.

These status updates will have multiple benefits in giving you increased business exposure, get customers to your website and even establish yourself as a leader in your given niche.  So start developing those engaging social media status updates – your biggest business boom will quickly follow!

How about giving some examples of the kind of status updates you share that have been helpful to you and your business.

Social Networking Sites and Online Sales Is There a Relationship?

Social Networking 300x300 Social Networking Sites and Online Sales Is There a Relationship? You know that social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn provide ample opportunities for getting your business name out there.

But when it comes to social networking sites and online sales, is there an actual relationship?  Can social networking profiles actually  increase your conversion rates – or are they just a great way to suck up your valuable marketing time?

Now, Internet marketing experts are split on the subject of how impactful social networking sites are for increasing conversion rates and sales.

Sure, they do a lot to increase your business’ visibility in the online world – but will they actually do enough to prompt your clients to buy your products?  The jury may still be out on this one, but one thing’s for sure – these social networking sites are crucial to maximizing your online success.

If there’s such controversy around using social networking profiles as a way to increase sales, why is there such a precedence placed on their use?

The whole purpose of social networking is to “bond” with your customers, who all have one thing in common –>you.  People opt to “friend” or “follow” a business because they feel like they’re getting closer to something that they truly value.

In this way, there’s no quantifiable relationship between conversion rates and social networking – but there certainly is a qualitative relationship.  And although this may be harder to measure, it’s nonetheless crucial to the success of your online business.

Play up this psychological link by posting compelling personal messages to your community.  Don’t just upload links and articles; instead, keep your profile fresh by uploading new information or by asking thought-provoking questions.

What is your opinion of social networking in relation to your online sales?

Is Social Media Turning You Anti-Social

social media anti social 540x360 300x200 Is Social Media Turning You Anti SocialOver the past several years
, social media has literally changed the way we do things on a day to day basis.  Not only has it provided a tremendous way for us to communicate to others across the miles and the oceans, but has brought tremendous benefits to our businesses as well.

BUT…. Is social media turning you anti-social?

I had to go to the doctor the other day and the waiting room  was packed.  While waiting to see the doctor, I looked around and noticed that  over half the people were on their smart phones, clicking away.  I couldn’t help but notice that 2 others had ear phones plugged to their smart phones, obviously listening to music or maybe  even a movie.

At first I thought, pretty soon we all will have smart  phones because they will be our virtual wallets as well as or continuous connection to others and the world.  BUT….

I noticed that no one smiled or even looked at anyone else.  There was an older couple in the corner, as I looked over they looked, I smiled and they returned the smile.

Not that this was a scientific experiment, but it certainly made me think about our current technology, social media and how it affects us as individuals.

After a wonderful dinner with my husband and our son, who was home from college to visit, between the time we sat down, ordered, ate dinner and paid the bill our son referred to his phone several times.  I also noticed many of the other patrons in the restaurant and at least half the tables had people looking at and using their smart phones.

So I ask, do you feel we are becoming ‘anti-social’ or how is social media and technology changing you?

Future Social Media Marketing Trends You Must Know About

Social Media Visual Marketing 630x630 300x300 Future Social Media Marketing Trends You Must Know About

As the year progresses to its end,

social media marketing trends show no signs of slowing down.
While Facebook recently enjoyed reaching its 750 million member milestone this past summer (that’s almost 1/6th of the world’s population) and Twitter boasts 175 million members, it’s clear to see that social media marketing will continue to dominate the Web 2.0 world.
There’s no denying that social commerce is a critical aspect to any company’s success, be it online or offline.  With that in mind, here are the future social media marketing trends that are set to make waves – and possibly even change the way you look at traditional marketing and advertising:

  • Users already exhibit a great deal of control over their favorite brands via social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.  However, if you’re not already interacting with your most valuable stakeholders, then it’s time to get on board, as research suggests that social media marketing will become more influenced by feedback from online users.
  • Social media marketing trends indicate that the most successful business websites will incorporate Web 2.0 sites into their own.  This falls in line with research released in 2010, which suggests that over 60% of online users would trust information contained on a social media site over that on a corporate site – even if the information was identical.
  • Social media marketing trends also suggest that the most successful business campaigns will take place on Web 2.0 platforms like Facebook and Twitter.  This research indicates that if you haven’t already made the jump to social media marketing, you could be missing out on a very lucrative slice of online profits.

If you’re ready to stand out as a leader in social media marketing, then these trends should set you up for major success in 2011 and beyond.  Are you ready?

Twitter Marketing Tips How to Get Thousands of Followers

Tweet Twitter Follower 300x200 Twitter Marketing Tips How to Get Thousands of Followers
When it comes to twitter marketing
, your success is embedded in your ability to attract thousands of followers to your Twitter profile.  However, you don’t need to cross your fingers and hope for the best to get boatloads of followers – just use these Twitter marketing tips and techniques!

Use Short URLS

Want to post a link to your website or blog, but don’t want to waste your valuable character space?  Here’s a simple solution: use an online tool to shorten the URL.   I like http://bit.ly, since it keeps the history of all the links you shorten, which is a major bonus if you’re a busy online marketer!

Make People Think

Ask powerful and thought-provoking questions.  Once your readers start to comment, engage them in conversation – you’ll soon have a Twitter profile filled with great dialogue.

Be a Useful Commenter

Twitter just isn’t a one-way street; if you want people to actively engage with your profile, then you’re going to need to leave thought-provoking comments on other profiles as well.  Engage in conversations between yourself, the profile user and other Tweeters.  Your comments should interest others, which will lead them directly to your own profile.

Be Informed

If you can, try to find out everything possible about all of your followers.  Obviously this is downright impossible if you have thousands of readers, but when you’re first starting out, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with your fans.  Find out their interests, likes and dislikes.  This can further help you to fine-tune your profile so that your readers can’t go a day without reading your updates.

Now that you have the goods to become a successful Twitter marketing guru, it’s time to claim your title as the social media leader in  your niche!

Top 3 Facebook Marketing Mistakes – Avoid Them At Your Own Risk

Facebook mistakes social media 300x174 Top 3 Facebook Marketing Mistakes Avoid Them At Your Own Risk

If you want to master the art of Facebook marketing, then you’ll obviously need to understand the best techniques out there.  But sometimes mastering Facebook marketing has as much to do with learning what’s considered inappropriate – so make sure you follow these hints so you don’t make a critical mistake:

Have a Life
If you devote all of your time to Facebook marketing, there’s no possible way that you can be interesting to your  readers – after all, you’re not out and about having a life!  Make sure Facebook doesn’t consume your day-to-day activities, even if your fans demand lots of updates from you; the aggravation just isn’t worth it.  Besides, you should connect with your clients in the real world as well as on Facebook.

Avoid Constant Self-Promotion.   Sure, you may think that Facebook marketing is all about self-promotion, but don’t ever forget that  Facebook is a social media tool – therefore, use it for social purposes.  You can insert a few links to your website, but provide your readers with free and relevant information as well.

Use Your Status Updates WiselyIt may be tempting to post the minutia of your online business to everyone in your life, but use  your status updates to provide readers with genuinely interesting and funny updates.  Note: this does not include what you had for breakfast (yes, I’ve seen it before!).

Avoid making these critical Facebook marketing mistakes, and you’ll be well on your way towards dominating the Web 2.0 world.

It’s your turn!  Please add to these top 3 mistakes; what have you experienced that works or doesn’t work when it comes to Facebook marketing?

5 Ways to Get Facebook Likes

Custom Facebook Profile Banner thumb 300x300 5 Ways to Get Facebook Likes

Are you having trouble getting people to like your facebook page?
You are not able to reach potential and current customers unless they like your
page, so how can you get people to “like” you page?

Here are 5 ways to get people to like your page:

Personal Page set up for a Business

If you are a business that is currently on facebook most likely you set it
up as a business page.  You have probably already noticed that there are
no “like request” buttons but with personal pages there are
“friend request” buttons.  So create a personal facebook page
with the name of your business and start requesting friends.  Once you
have a channel established you can lead them to your business page which you
have customized with all of your Involver tools.

Promote Outside of Facebook

If you are a business on facebook, you probably want to attract new
customers but don”t forget about your current customers.  Your current
customers will also probably be more active on your facebook page which then
creates more promotion.  If you have a location, like a restaurant, let
them know that you”re on facebook.  Make your facebook “like”
buttons accessible on your website. Include your facebook buttons in the
signature of your emails.  Remember everyone loves free stuff, so offer
them something if they like you on facebook.

Free Stuff

Social Media has made it easier for small businesses to reach their
customers but it has also created more competition.  Businesses are
finding ways to attract new customers by using “Daily Deal” sites
such as Group On (in San Luis   Obispo Countydealsaver.com).
Start offering free stuff to people that “like” your facebook
page.  People love free stuff.

Facebook Ads

Facebook Ads are a great way to let people know about your business page and
collect “likes”.  You can control Who and When people see your
promotion.  They also promote which of their friends like your business
page, this is important because, if their friends like your page they will too.
The downfall to this technique is that it costs money but you can closely
monitor how much you would like to invest.

Just Ask

The last tip might seem too simple but it works, just
ask people to like your facebook page.  Of course if they haven”t already
“liked” your page they won”t know your asking, so contact potential
fans on twitter, your blog, and your personal page.
